On the morning of your tour, meet your professional historian guide in the beautiful Piazza Pitti, which frames the one-time Medici home of the Pitti Palace. Learn about the history of this royal residence and the Oltarno district, whose name translates as ‘beyond the Arno’ and was once home to a large and vibrant community of craftspeople and artists. Today, the area still boasts many traditional artistic workshops and offers a treasure trove of Florentine history just across the Ponte Vecchio from the more popular city center.

After admiring the exterior of the Pitti Palace, continue on to the nearby Santo Spirito Church, a fine example of surviving Renaissance architecture, and stroll through the lovely Piazza del Carmine, home to the famous Brancacci Chapel. Step inside this beautiful 14th-century chapel with included admission, and enjoy a 30-minute guided visit to see one of the city’s most important collections of early Renaissance frescoes by the painter Masolino and his younger apprentice Masaccio.

Throughout the 2-hour tour, stroll off the beaten tourist path and take advantage of your guide’s historical expertise to gain an understanding of this truly unique part of Florence.

Note: Please observe a dress code for visiting the chapel, including no flip-flops, shorts, or miniskirts, and bring a shawl to cover bare shoulders if needed.
