Departure Time

9:30 AM
Meet your guide in the lobby of the China Hotel, Guangzhou, and begin your 7-hour tour. Then, head for Yuexiu Park, the city’s largest park, and composed of hilly gardens and monuments.

View the symbolic Five Rams statue, and hear the ancient legend that inspired it. Then, continue to the Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King. Head inside to view the 2,000-year-old tomb of the king Zhao Mo, along with a treasure-trove of cultural and funerary relics, including his jade burial suit.

Next, ride the metro to the Chen Clan Academy, a 19th-century temple where youngsters trained for Qing dynasty examinations. Wander around the richly decorated Cantonese buildings before catching the metro to Shamian Island, a British and French colony during the 1800s.

View the colonial-era buildings here, and after a Cantonese dim sum lunch, take a public sightseeing cruise on the Pearl River to the Canton TV Tower. Admire the riverfront buildings and bridges, and disembark to admire the 1,968-foot (600-meter) tower.

If you wish, visit the observation decks (own expense) to absorb the bird’s-eye city views. Your trip then concludes at the tower square, where you can take a metro or cab back to your hotel.
