Meet your guide and small group of up to 8 people at the gateway of Chinatown in time for a 5pm departure. Set off to explore the vibrant district on foot, admiring the historic architecture and traditional shop-houses with their characteristic ‘five foot walkways’.
Along the way, peek into buildings once used as opium dens, sample some sweet pastries at a local bakery, and watch how local delicacy ‘bakkwa’ (a jerky-like meat grilled over charcoal) is made. Next, pay a visit to a master calligrapher to learn more about the ancient Chinese art, and stop by a 100-year-old teashop to sip some traditional Chinese tea.
Finally arrive at the aptly named ‘Food Street’, famous for it’s delicious street food. Learn more about local customs and culinary traditions as you visit the many vendors and tuck into classic dishes such as satay, kueh pie tee, and chicken rice. There’s just time for one last stop – at a popular dessert shop, to end your evening with one of Singapore’s favorite sweet treats.
