Start your food-centric tour of Istanbul by meeting your guide in the lobby of your Sultanahmet or Taksim hotel. Head for the port, where you'll hop the ferry to Kadikoy. Once there, settle down in a local tea shop to sip some tea and feed the seagulls while admiring a view of the old city. Next, head for the local fish and food markets, where neighborhood residents get their daily fresh food. Walk around the area, where you can see local sidewalk restaurants, then stop at a community coffee house for a traditional Turkish coffee.
Hop a tram for the brief journey to Moda, where you'll sit down to ice cream or 'salep', a warm beverage made with milk and orchid powder. Set out for a walk past the tea gardens to bustling Bahariye Street, one of the most famous shopping streets in Istanbul. Duck into a dessert cafe for a 'tavuk göğsü', one of Turkey's signature dishes made from milk pudding and chicken meat. Continue on to Yanyali Fehmi Lokantasi for lunch, where you can try foods such as traditional kebabs and soup.
Board the ferry again, bound for a baklava-making demonstration, then take a short trip of the Egyptian bazaar. Your last stop is Haci Bekir Sekercisi to taste some local sweets or have some packaged up for souvenirs.
End your tour at the Sirkeci tram stop around 5pm.
