The Santa Maria de Colombo makes a trip along the south coast of Madeira, where we usually go direction west, passing by Camara de Lobos, the fishing Village.
The boat was buitl in this Village in 1998
It was nice to go on this replica boat and see the dolphins at one point. We had hoped that the captains would also give us information and point out spots of interest on the 3 hour sail and teach about marine life and ecological aspects. They however did not see this as part of their job. It was just sailing and no talking. If you went over to them to ask a question they would answer but it was a missed opportunity for teaching us in the whole 3 hours. We could have enjoyed it so much more than we did. They did not want to exert themselves at all on our behalf.
Much less authentic than I expected. I really expected to see them sailing the medieval-like galleon properly, and not just using the engines the entire time. Some of the extra perks are seeing dolphins, but that is not advertised as the main attraction of the tour.
