Spend a day at Lake Maggiore, visiting Stresa and the Borromean Islands, on a day trip from Milan. After some time at your leisure in Stresa, you'll board a ferry to cruise around the lake, admiring alpine views set against the shimmering water. Pass Isola Madra, then visit Isola dei Pescatori and Isola Bella where elaborate gardens and decadent palazzi await.
Leave your Milan hotel at 7:30am, and travel north to the Italian Lakes, the scenic region that stretches north toward the Swiss border.
Stop in Stresa, on the banks of Lake Maggiore, Italy’s second largest lake. Set against a stunning backdrop of the alps, the expanse of water is home to the tiny Borromean Islands, which you’ll visit later on the tour.
Use your free time to explore the chic lakeside town, perhaps finding a café or browsing the shops. Then, head to the water side for your 2-hour cruise around the lake.
Pass the Borromean island of Isola Madra, with its 20-acre (8-hectare) park, then dock at Isola dei Pescatori for some free time and lunch. Continue across the water to Isola Bella, and admire the extensive gardens of the Borromean Palace, flanked by grandiose buildings and cafes.
Return to your boat and cruise back to Stresa. From here, you’ll board your bus and travel back to Milan. Your day trip ends with a central Milan drop-off between Via Cusani and Largo Cairoli.
