Start your half-day coach tour to Christchurch — aka ‘The Garden City’ — with afternoon pickup at a central location in Mount Cook Village. Your driver motors down the western shoreline of Lake Pukaki, where you’re treated to exceptional views of Aoraki/Mount Cook, whose 12,217 feet (3,724 meters) in elevation makes it New Zealand’s tallest mountain peak.
Upon reaching Lake Tekapo, marvel at the glacier lake surrounded by alpine scenery. Disembark for a short visit to the Church of the Good Shepherd, a solitary structure that stands on the lake’s foreshore.
After some photo ops, continue on over Burkes Pass before a tea break in the farming town of Geraldine (own expense). Afterward, you’ll travel through rolling green hills and via the pastoral stretch of the Canterbury Plains, listening to your guide’s informative commentary along the way to your destination, where you’ll arrive in the evening.
