Your day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle starts with the train or bus journey from Munich through the German countryside. The entrance fee to the castle is not included (you can pay on the day), but by booking this tour in advance, you receive skip-the-line access to Neuschwanstein so you won’t waste time standing in the ticket queue.

Once inside the enchanting structure, take a tour with a guide, who shares fascinating stories about the reclusive Bavarian king who commissioned a new residence in the 19th century. Thought to be mad, King Ludwig II desired a fantasy castle built in the mountains, an obsessive feat that was still incomplete when he died. Visit the best vantage points for views and photo ops of the castle’s towers, interiors and surrounding scenery such as the lake, gorge and equally beautiful Hohenschwangau Castle.

Your tour ends with the ride back to Munich. Offering great views, the trains are clean, comfortable, and equipped with washrooms. You may walk around to talk with your fellow travelers and your guide, who can answer any questions you may have about Munich and Bavaria.

Nice early winter

The small group arrangement was great, as it allows better access to our guide and not to get lost in big crowds. Catching the train was also good as it has more space for the ride. Great narration and a nice walk upto the castle help me enjoy the history and the overall experience

A certifiably magical experience!

Lana was our tour guide and did such an amazing job bringing the story of Ludwig II to life! Not only did she have a good energy that transcended cultures, she was just so personable, energetic, and passionate about what she was discussing. Plus, by booking through Viator, you don’t have to worry about making the train. Or about long lines to get in the castle (payable at the Munich office). Lana made first trip to Germany one I’ll never forget, for all the right reasons.

An absolute must for everyone visiting Munich

I normally don't spend time writing reviews but this is an exception - if the Neuschwanstein Castle bought Germany international clout, then Stevo was the one making them visually dynamic. With this tour, you would soak up all the excitement of the history of Bavaria, and feel Stevo's passion and profession. The tour brightened up my entire Germany trip!

We so very much appreciate you making an exception by writing a review for your experience with Steveo on our Neuschwanstein castle tour! It really does have a magical feeling, the castle nestled in the Alps, and on top with an expert story teller!

This tour was totally amazing! The views of the lakes and castles are unbelievable. I highly recommend going in autumn. Anna was our guide and she was the absolute best! Knows a lot of history and is a great storyteller.

Worth a trip

2h train ride, followed by 1h bus ride to the foot of the castle from where you can choose to pay about 3 euros to take a bus up to the castle or you can walk. Entrance into the castle will cost about 10 euros. Overall, very scenic and beautiful views, memorable day. Our guide, Aileen, was very knowledgeable, shared interesting stories and facts about the castle and much more about Munich, Bavaria and other parts of Germany.

Absolutely Loved! We thought that we would not like this tour however, it was amazing. Michelle, from Detroit Michigan, was very knowledgeable about the castle and Ludwig II. I loved how she gave background history of the father and grandfather of Ludwig II for those of us who do not know much about German history. Expect a long walk—you must be physical fit. But they do options for those who are not fit enough to walk the hill

Charlie and the Castle Tour Group - YES
JosephF_V
, Oct 2021
I want to say that this tour was much better than many of the reviews stated. From the start, Charlie was accommodating and efficient in the execution of the tour and all the logistics of trains, tours, and busses. Great communication and plenty of free time, too. The storytelling qualities of Charlie's are superb. Great way of teaching the history up to and including the Castle. Would do it again. Ask for Charlie.

Castle guided tour is so bad
Izz
, Oct 2021
The guide was very nice and helpful. We took a train down to the castle and it was all comfortable. The only disappointing part was the castle ‘guided’ tour where they just give you an audio device and you just walk around the less than 5 rooms. We all look like zombies listening to that audio device and walking around. Not fun and nothing much to see or learn from the castle tour. Not worth the trip there alone.
