Experience California’s wine country by land and by water! Your tour begins at Sebastopol’s Ragle Park in the famed Sonoma Valley, where you’ll meet your guide and be fitted for a hybrid bike and helmet. Set off on a two-wheeled tour of the Alexander Valley winemaking region — a picturesque landscape of rolling hills and historic vineyards known for producing excellent cabernet sauvignon and merlot.
Learn about the history and highlights of this scenic region from your guide as you ride approximately 7 miles (11 km) along easy, mostly flat country roads. Stop at two or three local wineries for a tasting of Alexander Valley’s award-winning wines (own expense), and enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch at one of the beautiful estates (see Itinerary for a sample menu). Soak up the verdant, peaceful scenery and perhaps even play a game of bocce ball after your meal.
In the afternoon, head to a launch point on the Russian River. After a safety orientation and learning a few paddling techniques, climb aboard a kayak and glide down this beautiful waterway that winds through Sonoma Valley. Keep an eye out for local birdlife like blue herons as you float past rolling hills and lush riverbanks, and get your pulse up navigating some small rapids!
No biking or kayaking experience is necessary, as your knowledgeable guides will provide all needed instruction.
