Overview

Escape the crowds of Playa del Carmen to explore Mexico’s ancient history on a full-day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chichen Itza and a secluded freshwater cenote. Going with a guide is recommended, as the Mayan ruins are often unmarked and need explanation. Recharge after lunch at a natural sinkhole (cenote) in the jungle, an experience that visitors to the Yucatan often miss.
  • See one of the most celebrated Mayan ruins in the Yucatan

A very long day

A day trip to Valladolid, Chichen Itza and Cenote swim. Tour was 14 hours inclusive of individual drop offs at end of day. I would have preferred just a direct tour to chichen itza and cenote swim and much shorter bus time. Our tour guide was excellent though. Lunch was average.

Stunning views and scenery

Decent enough tour, but if you are booking from Playa Del Carmen you will got to meet the Cancun bus on the outskirts, takes longer than more direct tours. Valladolid was a 25 minute walk through allegedly because of a fiesta, however, cannot see how the visit would be longer if there was no fiesta. Then onto view a community that produce the same over engineered Chinese made souvenirs and lunch. Finally onto Chichen Itza at 2pm - too hot, too crowded but stunning to see. Realistically, Chichen would be better in the morning, then lunch, then the Cenote and Vallodolid if there is time on the way back. Just the same story with large coach tours, too many people not turning up on time at each location and the itinery slipping. Returned to a location near hotel and had to make own way back despite paying for hotel pick up. Cheap and cheerful trip but next time would book a small bus that goes direct to Chichen Itza. The guide was fab though, extremely knowledgeable but hard to keep up with the constant flicking between English and Spanish, line by line and word for word translations became confusing and I and a fair few others zoned out. If you want a low cost flying visit to each location, this is perfect.

The guide was so knowledgeable, and friendly. It was a long hot day, but worth every minute. Swimming in the cenote to cool off after was the best part of the whole day.
