See ‘Sound of Music’ filming locations, Obersalzberg, and the Austrian Lakes on a private day trip from Salzburg. The action-packed day includes visits to Schloss Leopoldskron, Hellbrunn Castle, Lake Wolfgangsee, and Mondsee — all sites immortalized in the ‘Sound of Music’ film. Travel to Obersalzberg, too, and learn about the mountain retreat during the days of Hitler’s Third Reich. Access to the Eagle’s Nest—or Rossfeld summit during snowy winter months—isn’t included, but there’s ample time for you to visit it, if you wish.
  • Private Sound of Music and Obersalzberg tour from Salzburg
  • See film sites such as Schloss Leopoldskron and Hellbrunn Castle
  • Learn about the classic Sound of Music story from your guide
  • Visit Obersalzberg, a mountain enclave that was used by Nazi leaders
  • Have time to visit the Eagle’s Nest (or Rossfeld summit in winter), if you wish
  • Travel with a private guide for a personalized tour
Leave your Salzburg hotel with your private driver and guide, and head into town for your city Sound of Music tour. Stop to see Schloss Leopoldskron, which starred as the von Trapp family home, then head to Hellbrunn Castle to snap a photo in the pavilion. It’s here that the film’s iconic gazebo scene was shot. Back on board your minibus, you’ll travel past the German border to the meadow where Julia Andrews sang "The Hills are Alive."
Continue to Obersalzberg, the mountain retreat high above the town of Berchtesgaden that was used by Hitler during the days of Nazi rule. From here, you can choose to travel even higher to the Eagle’s Nest on the rocky Kehlstein peak. Transport and entrance fees aren’t included, but the views over Königssee and the Bavarian Alps make the expense worthwhile. The Eagle’s Nest sits at an altitude of 6,000 feet (1,828 meters) and is accessed by bus and elevator. Another option, especially when the access road is closed from November until mid-May, is the less-crowded Rossfeld summit where the von Trapp family hiking scene was filmed.
On your return to Salzburg, pass through the Austrian Lake District, seeing Fuschlsee and St. Gilgen, the birthplace of Mozart’s mother. Call in at a few more Sound of Music film sites such as Lake Wolfgangsee and Mondsee where Maria von Trapp got married. Finally, finish the day with a drop-off at your Salzburg hotel.

Our guide Manfred was amazing! He was very flexible and took us places that most tourist don't see! We did not go to Eagles nest as originally planned but we got to see it from afar but did not have to take 2-3 hours out of our day to see it He was very personable and very knowledgeable! He was by far the best guide we have ever had! Highly Reccomend. Thank you Manfred! Your friends from Kansas City !!
