Meet your guide at your hotel or alternative pickup location prior to an 8 a.m. departure (confirm exact time with tour provider). Climb aboard a comfortable bus for an hour-long drive down Highway 1, maneuvering over bluffs and skimming past beaches on your way down the Pacific Coast.
Arrive at Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park at roughly 10:30 a.m. to view the 115-foot (35-meter) tall lighthouse, one of the tallest in the United States, and then ascend into the Santa Cruz mountains en route to Roaring Camp, a recreated pioneer village built to preserve a chapter of California history. Stop for lunch at Chuckwagon Barbecue, where you can choose from a burger, pork sandwich, or veggie burger complete with side items and a marshmallow to roast over an open fire.
After eating, board one of the oldest operating steam trains in the country for a 3.25-mile (5-km) round-trip ride through a primary redwood forest. Upon your return, see the trees up close during an hour of free time at the neighboring Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Take a photo beneath a giant 1,500-year-old tree, hike down the Old-Growth Redwood Grove Loop Trail, or learn about the area’s history at the Visitor Center.
