Step back in time in Tokyo during a 90-minute performance of an ‘Oiran’ cabaret show. This elegant spectacle of samurai warriors and beautifully-dressed kimono-wearing dancers is sure to give you a new appreciation for the culture of ancient Japan.
Head to the Kaguwa Theater and Restaurant in Tokyo’s Roppongi area on the afternoon of your performance. Over the course of your show, you’ll be dazzled by an intricate series of vignettes showcasing the costumes, traditions and style of Japan’s Edo period, which lasted from 1600 through the mid 19th century.
The ‘stars’ of your performance are the ‘Oiran,’ a historic form of female Japanese entertainer popular during the Edo era. Gaze in wonder as you admire the ‘Oiran-dochu,’ a parade of these unique Japanese performaers, as they march across the stage clad in their elaborate kimono costumes. Over the course of your show you’ll also watch samurais show of their sword skills and watch Japanese drag queens as they stage a mesmerizing dance.
You’ll finish your show in the early evening, with plenty of time left over to wander the nighttime streets of this unique Tokyo area.
