Skiing in Beijing

Skiing in Beijing
While Beijing is most famous for its historic and cultural sites, the city also serves as a base for outdoor adventure once snow begins to fall. While the Chinese capital might not yet be synonymous with skiing, the Beijing region is home to several top notch resorts with a reputation on the rise. In 2022, Beijing will host the Winter Olympics, making it the first city in the world to have hosted both summer and winter games.

Nanshan Ski Resort
The largest ski resort in the Beijing area, Nanshan maintains 25 trails for skiers of all ability levels, all serviced by three high-speed quads, 16 drag lifts, and four magic carpets. The resort also allows snowboarding and sledding.

Huaibei International Ski Resort
There aren't many places in the world where you can see a UNESCO World Heritage site and go skiing on the same day—Huaibei International Ski Resort is one of them. Located near the Mutianyu Great Wall, the ski trains here even boast views of the wall as it winds through the mountains. Skiers and snowboarders have four lifts and nearly a dozen trails to choose from.

Zhangjiakou Wanlong Ski Resort
While a bit further from Beijing—about a four-hour drive—this resort enjoys one of the longest seasons in the country, as well as an excellent lift system with two high-speed gondolas, three quads, and a large magic carpet. The slopes here are expected to be used during the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

Badaling Ski Resort
Situated just west of the Great Wall at Badaling, this convenient resort has six trails, including one of the longest cross-country ski trails in the region.
