Visiting the capital of the country means supplementing the historical knowledge of events marked by the arrival of independence. Places such as the Jaime Mota Army House, the cruise, the Presidential Palace, the Municipal Chamber, the courts, the Alexandre Albuquerque main square, show the colonial side of the city. In the Municipal Market you can get to know a lot of the local gastronomy, going down Ponta Belém to the Sucupira Market, where you can buy souvenirs, traditional clothes and much more.
The visit of the natural park in the giant crater of Chã das Caldeiras is the main tourist attraction in Cape Verde. It reveals one of the most beautiful natural places in the world. Live a unique experience in a lunar landscape of volcanic sand, dotted with vines and endemic plants. This fascinating circuit offers a multitude of curiosities, human encounters and then breathtaking sublime landscapes. The consequences of the expression of Volcan Island, its eruptions, are visible. However, hope is reborn. The astonishing selflessness of the inhabitants gives us a lesson in life. We discover a respectful relationship between man and his volcano. You will have the opportunity to taste the excellent natural products from this volcanic land and its unique microclimate. Wine, coffee and cheese are the products to taste on the island.
Come see Santiago's Old Town, which is the birthplace of Cape Verdeanity. It is also the toponym of what was once the old city of Ribeira Grande, which was the capital of the Cape Verde archipelago for some centuries. It was the first city that the Portuguese had in Africa, in their adventure of discoveries. Hence it is a mandatory reference in the historical context of the islands of Cape Verde. Only the ruins that sadly lean over the archipelago's eternal blue sea remain, and they sleep under the weight of years of men's oblivion, and their visit had a driver with years of experience who will ensure that their journey is of quality, comfort and safety. .
With a private guide to point out the landmarks, this half-day trip from Praia to Cidade Velha is personalized. Entrance fees are also included to Sé Cathedral, Pelourinho (the pillory), and the Church of Our Lady of Rosário.
Guiding by the quality of service, our guides will offer you a bit of our history, our culture and the local gastronomy, to make you feel better the places visited. Im this tour we gonna anderstand the history of cape verd, and see the beatifull constrution build by portuguese im century 14.
The island of Santiago was discovered by António da Noli, a Genoese in Portuguese service, in 1460. Da Noli settled at Ribeira Grande with his family members and Portuguese from Algarve and Alentejo in 1462. The settling conditions were good due to the abundance of water from the river Ribeira Grande, which gave it an advantage over the other settlement on Santiago, Alcatrazes.
The settlement became a key port of call for Portuguese colonisation towards Africa and South America. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it was a centre of maritime trade between Africa, the Cape, Brazil and the Caribbean. Due to its proximity to the African coast, it was an essential platform for the trade of enslaved persons.
