Eagle Beach

The name Eagle Beach seems to imply a shoreline that’s home to soaring bald eagles. While it’s definitely possible to see eagles here as they cruise aloft on the breeze, there’s much more to this Juneau shore than feathery birds of prey. As part of Eagle Beach State Recreation Area that stretches for 600 acres, Eagle Beach offers camping, hiking, picnicking, biking and bird watching. Sit at a wooden picnic table and gaze towards the Chilkat Mountains, where lingering patches of white snow seem to float above the waters. Comb the shoreline for sea glass and driftwood whenever the tide rolls out, or spend a night at one of 26 comfortable Eagle Beach campsites. In winter the beach has a cross country skiing trail that can also be hiked in summer, and when walking down by the Eagle Beach shore, there’s always the chance you could find a bear that’s fishing in search of a meal.
