What To Expect

Leave the bustle of the city behind on a countryside bike tour from Amsterdam. Your approximately 13.5- to 15-mile (22- to 25-kilometer) ride will take you the outskirts of the city and the countryside beyond, stopping along the way so your guide can share interesting anecdotes and background.

Your tour begins in central Amsterdam in the late morning, when your informative guide provides a brief introduction to Amsterdam’s history. Then, cycle through the bike-friendly city of Amsterdam, pedaling along narrow streets and canals and over beautiful bridges.

Slowly, your cityscape changes to tranquil pastures and peaceful waterways. Keep watch for colorful houseboats, as well as people fishing and rowing in the water.

At a local farmhouse, meet a farmer and enjoy some Dutch traditions: sample farm-produced cheese and watch a demonstration of how clogs are made. Stop at the iconic De Riekermolen windmill, one of only eight remaining authentic windmills in and around Amsterdam.

During your ride back to Amsterdam, cycle through some of the city’s parks including the lush Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s largest and most well-known park, and the woodland scenery of Amsterdamse Bos Park. Your tour ends in the afternoon.

Traveler Tips

This trip is well worth it and best if you are a reasonably skilled rider and in good enough shape to ride leisurely but steadily for 3 hours or so.
You definitely should plan to bring water bottles (they give you the opportunity to refill them) and pack a lunch as you will be out for 4 hours for sure.
But it's worth pointing out that it is a good idea to bring your own water and snacks along.

Don't go in the winter if rain is possible.
Michelle_B, Dec 2022
Unfortunately we did not get to experience the full tour due to it being freezing and raining and we just decided to turn back half way because it was just not enjoyable. The guide was very sweet but we felt even with rain jackets it was just not fun. Our pants were soaking wet it was 34 degrees. I would like to do the tour again when it is either not raining or in warm weather. My advice would be not to do it in the winter esp if there is any chance of rain. It is just not enjoyable. I am sure it is a wonderful tour and I have nothing negative to say about them just my advice to other travelers is to not do it in the rain.
Response from Host, Dec 2022
Thanks for your review, sorry to hear that the weather was cold with rain. It rains a lot in the Netherlands so we can not control this part and advice everyone to be prepared with raingear and warm clothes depending on the season. We offer the option to cancel up to 24 hours in advance with a full refund. We hope to see you back another time on this tour.
Great bike trip!

Gus was a great tour guide! The bike ride was easy and provided great views. The cheese farm was fun and had some tasty gouda. I would definitely recommend taking this tour!
Great!
Sara_Z, Oct 2022
Our tour guide Simon was very knowledgeable. The tour took us through several parks and thanks to the weather the paths weren’t that crowded. The best part by far was the cheese tasting at the farm which was excellent.

A Must Do in Amsterdam!!
Mark_L, Sept 2022
We had a fabulous time with our tour guide! He was the best! The countryside is absolutely gorgeous and a must see. The cheese and clog farm were very interesting and the cheese was delicious. The commentary from the farmer could have been much shorter. It was more of a sales pitch. But as I say, the cheese was fabulous! We lucked out with the weather and couldn’t have had a better time.
Awesome ride!

Awesome bike tour. Our guide Mike was terrific. Cheese farm and clog shop was cool. Countryside was beautiful.
Nice ride
ydsytdsydy, Sept 2022
Countryside was beautiful. Our guide Mike was great. Group was on the bigger side so we had to move a little slower but that was okay so we could look around. Felt safe and not exerting. The farm was a bit of a disappointment. Felt a little touristic with two buses in front of us visiting. We had to join a huge group in a cramped, damp barn for a cheese demo and clog making demo. The farmer shaved the cheese into a visitors hands to pass around or onto plates for everyone to pick up bits with fingers. Coming out of a pandemic, this didn’t seem super hygienic. Also the booking write up said there would be stoopwafel but there was none of that. Honestly could have done without the cheese farm since there was very little tasting. But the scenic ride was nice.

The full Amsterdam experience!
Winnie_C, Sept 2022
I joined as a solo traveler and had no problem feeling welcomed into the group. The bike ride was excellent and gives a great view of the city and countryside. I would recommended for someone with intermediate exercise skills as the bike riding does require a bit of physical exertion. Other than that, be prepared for the cheese farmers witty sense of humor and bring lots of water and a snack or two!
Great bike guide. Horrible cheese farmer
Dusty_H, Sept 2022
Our guide was amazing!!!! The Dutch farmer was creepy!! You should find another farmer. He made the girls (and guys) feel very uncomfortable.
A great way to spend a few hours!
Lorna_F, Aug 2022
We had such a fab morning cycling around the countryside, a side of Amsterdam we haven't seen before. Gus our guide was super informative and you could tell how much he loved the place. It wasn't too strenuous as i'm not the fittest and I coped with it well. A really great excursion, thanks!
Great

Very cool experience of Amsterdam!
Janssen_R, Aug 2022
Just seeing the country side is very cool. I wouldn’t have seen that part of the city otherwise. Also the cheese tour in the farm was cool.

Great trip. Entertaining guide & a good mix of town & country experience. As older customers, the pace and exercise level was very manageable.
Fun!
Dianne_B, Aug 2022
Great tour! Not for beginning riders. The day was hot and stops were in the sun. Make sure you’re well hydrated beforehand. That said, great way to see life outside of the city! Beautiful countryside views and excellent stories. Adonis was amazingly kind and informative!
