Return flights from Aswan to Abu Simbel, saving precious travel time
Easiest way to see Abu Simbel in one day. Guide met us at the hotel in Aswan and at the airport in Abu Simbel. Definitely much easier than driving. Guide in AS was knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with.
I would recommend this trip. We learned about the moving of this site before the Aswan dam was built. That 30 ton portions of the site were moved and put back together was awesome to learn about. Our guide spent time explaining the function of the temple and the art work inside. Pictures are not allowed inside the temple but a UNESCO picture folio was available for purchase which covered the inside.
An unmissable sight on any tour to Egypt. It is a 35 half hour hop by air each way from Aswan, and the fights were on time and comfortable enough, with efficient meeting and greeting at both ends. A couple of points to note:
1. The flight schedules are variable according to demand etc., so don't necessarily expect to go at exactly the time shown on the Viator site. This will be confirmed by the tour operator close to the day of the trip.
2. It's not worth paying the higher price for a guide on site. We paid the 'without guide' rate, but they gave us a guide anyway.
We flew to Abu SImbel with our guide. The history of the temple, the relocation of it in the 1960s to make way for Lake Nassar and the High Dam at Aswan, made the experience even more awesome. Highly recommend Fouad from South Sanai Tours local agent for Viator. We have had other guides in Egypt and they pale in comparison to his knowledge and expertise.
Abu Simbel is amazing. But don't pay for the private tour. We were with the "group" the entire time and the private guide didn't give us anything that the Lonely planet travel guide didn't offer. But definitely a must see on your trip.
I had an exceptional experience with my tour through Viator, especially being a woman traveling alone to Egypt. A representative (Hedra) picked me up from my ship in Aswan, got my boarding pass for me at the airport, and sent me off. There were 2 more representatives who helped me during my tour at Abu Simbel which was awesome. There were barely any other tourists there so I felt I had the place to myself (good for me, not good for Egypt). Hedra was waiting for me back at the airport in Aswan and took me to my hotel (and waited while all my accommodations were arranged). Everyone was extremely kind and made the trip easy and enjoyable for me.
