Departure Point

Traveler pickup is offered
Hotel pickup and drop-off services are available within the 4th Ring Zone of Beijing City. Please enter the name and address of your hotel/airbnb/accommodation information in the blank of pickup location at the time of booking.

Departure Time

8:00 AM
After early pickup from your central Beijing hotel, journey into the countryside by comfortable, air-conditioned coach.

As you travel, listen to your guide share information about the Great Wall’s Jinshanling section. Built during the Ming dynasty between 1368 and 1644, and located in the mountains of Luanping County, Jinshanling is favored by hikers, and much less visited than other, fully restored stretches.

Stop on route for a simple breakfast, and after about three hours’ traveling, arrive at your hike start point on the eastern side of Jinshanling. Then, set off on your 6-mile (10-kilometer) trek with your guide, who will accompany you throughout.

Absorb the untamed mountains and landscapes as you walk from watchtower to watchtower, negotiating areas of uneven terrain along the way. Learn about the wall’s construction, and stop for photos of the great edifice snaking along the ridges before you. If you want to rest your legs, choose to ride the cable cars up and down the mountains (own expense).

After your approximately 4-hour hike, refuel with a late lunch at a traditional Chinese restaurant. Then, relax on your return journey, ending your trip at your Beijing hotel at about 4pm.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Jinshanling Great Wall
As the most popular hiking trip of the Great Wall around Beijing, it will show you both Simatai and Jinshanling sections of the wall within 3 hours. A 40-minute steps walking up will lead you to East-Five-Eye watchtower at Simatai West. You may take a few breaths before reaching the Wall, and will be rewarded by the breathtaking panoramic view of this amazing human constructions. Take a short break and some photos here, we will then walk westward to Jinshanling. We will get off the wall at Shalingkou at Jinshanling, alternatively you can walk another 30 minutes if you feel energetic and then get off the wall at Zhuanduokou . The un-restored wall, the watch towers, the beacon towers snake on the mountain from east to west. You will have chance to meet local farmer friends, try local home-made food and learn local community development. It is the best place for keen photographers along the wall. Regarding fitness it is a medium-level hiking for all ages. Pick you up at your hotel at 8am and then drive to Simatai West. You will start the hiking around 10:30 am, and it will take about 3 hours to complete the hiking. A lunch at a local farmer’s restaurant will be organized after the hiking before returning your hotel. This section offers arguably the finest hiking anywhere on the Great Wall. It is extremely photogenic, with over 15 watch-towers, and steep gradients that give constantly changing perspectives and wide, open views. There is fascinating variety in the watch-towers here. Some have two storeys, others three. Some have flat roofs, others rounded and others again are pitched with upturned eaves. This section of the wall is wild, ruined, preserved and original. On a clear day, it is difficult to fail to take good photographs here.

Amazing!!!!! I tested my physical condition but it was worth it every step up and down. There is a lift for those in no such great shape however, at this time of the year it is closed. Beautiful blue sky, perfect weather, incredible views!!!! Nancy, our tour guide, was great! Lunch was by locals, healthy and delicious!!! My reward was a cold local beer......awhhh!! Highly recommend this hike - it is the least touristy one. Nancy
