Meet your guide at your Chiang Mai hotel, and enjoy views of the Mae Sa jungle during the 1-hour trip to the Thai Elephant Care Center. Start the day by changing into the traditional costume of Thailand’s elephant trainers, or mahout, then visit the elderly elephants that live onsite.
Learn about the kinds of food that older elephants like, and help prepare and feed them a morning meal (they especially love ground up grass and bananas). Tour the Thai Elephant Care Center’s elephant cemetery, see the facilities where the resident elephants sleep each night and make a batch of herb balls—the elephants depend on these supplements for balanced nutrition.
Join the elephants for their daily bath and mud spa, then reward them with a basket of ripe bananas, one of their favorite treats. You’ll have the chance to shower and change on-site before saying goodbye to the elephants and making the return trip to Chiang Mai.
