I would recommend booking another tour thru a different company. We were picked up by our guide and it was his first time giving a tour. He did not speak English very well and also got lost a few times when we were going to each place. Also, we did not receive any information about the region. We felt bad for our guide because it felt like he didn't get any training.
We visited 3 places. The first one was Il Colombaio which was a small bed and breakfast and we met with the winemaker. The wine was good there, and the property was pretty but we were the only ones there. The second place was called Poggio Amorelli and this was our favorite out of the 3 places. It was a nice lunch and we had some great wines and great service. The third place was the worst. We were taken to a Villa that was extremely far- about 15 mins off a dirt road and there was no one there on the property. Apparently the woman who would have given the tour was ill, so another woman who did not speak any English at all was giving us the wine tasting. The villa was also kind of scary and gave off a haunted feeling to it. It also didn't help that they didn't speak any English so we felt a bit scared here.
I would recommend going thru a different company. This was way too expensive and was disappointing to us. We've done wine tours all over the world and this one was definitely a let down.
Dear Erica, I wish I could have been personally your driver but that day it was not possible but since we had a scheduled tour I called my colleague in order not to cancel your tour, and I'm really sad to hear that it was not good for you. Regarding the wineries, you said that you enjoyed the first 2 wineries ... the third winery that you call a "scary" place in one of the most magnificent and elegant villas in the Chianti region, founded in 1033 and renovated in 1621.. I mean... is normal that it looks old ... we don't bring our travellers in a "Napa Style" wineries but we try fo focus in places that are particular and authentic.
