A WONDERFUL TRAIN RIDE WITH LOTS OF UNEXPECTED EXTRAS
, Jun 2019
It was a wonderful day. The scenery is wonderful and the train ride fun. Flavia looked after me as the only native English speaker in my carriage really well, making sure I did not miss anything. I had chosen the new carriage which was not the luxury carriage as I wanted to be able to open windows to take photos and it was the best carriage on the train! It was the last one so you could stand on the little deck at the back to take photos too, if you chose. It was cold in the mountains but a beautiful, sunny day and that is where I stood most of the time except when coffee and snacks were served. There is beautiful mountain scenery, lakes and waterfalls and then you are over the top and descend into tropical scenery with banana palms and warmth. Lovely. We were the second group for lunch so we went on a tour of the area beforehand which was really lovely, visiting the sea and a little shop selling banana products. Then we had a delicious lunch and a chance to visit the market at Morretes and listen to bands before being driven back to Curitiba. We stopped at a really interesting place that had full-scale working models of life through the years in Parana and the industries and life there. Then back via road including part of the original road built over the sierra and a wonderful explanation of the history. Thoroughly recommended and thank Flavia for making it such a fantastic day.
This tour is fantastic. But it might not have happened. We were not picked up the morning of our tour. Thanks to the front desk clerk at our hotel we did get picked up, but missed the train! It was actually Serra Verde Express' fault, they had the booking but didn't process it. Maybe Viator could call them the day prior to the trip to check that they have the bookings. we ended up doing the tour in reverse and were able to see everything and do all of the activities. Our tour guide Diego Parana was excellent! I would recommend this tour, but be on the phone if the van doesn't come to pick you up!
