Delve into Istanbul’s Byzantine history on this 8-hour tour of the Golden Horn from Istanbul. Beginning with a ferry ride that covers both sides of the legendary waterway, straddled by the famous Galata Bridge, you'll stroll beside what remains of the 4th-century Walls of Constantinople, visit the hilltop perch of the mighty Palace of the Porphyrogenitus, and marvel at the Church of Cora, a magnificent example of early Christian architecture. See, too, the historic districts of Balat and Fener. Small-group tour limited to eight participants.

At 9:30am, greet your guide and small-group outside of the Egyptian Spice Market in Eminonu. Stroll to the port and board a ferry destined for Karakoy, the route to which slaloms both sides of the legendary Golden Horn.
Before disembarking at Karakoy, you’ll cruise beneath four famous bridges including Galata Bridge, Ataturk Bridge, and the Halic Bridge. Then, stroll beside the 4th-century ruins of the Walls of Constantinople until you reach a Greek Orthodox Church that holds the world’s only Friday morning mass service.
Your next stop is the majestic Palace of the Porphyrogenitus, which served as a regal residence during the Byzantine empire, before you feast your eyes on the Church of Chora, a spellbinding example of early Christian architecture — within, well-preserved mosaics and frescoes abound.
Wind your way back through Balat, home to sophisticated apartments and one of Istanbul’s only surviving synagogues, and learn about the Christian heritage Fener, whose column has direct links to Jesus.
Your tour concludes close to your original departure point at the Egyptian Spice Market.
