Overview

Combine visits to the Glacier Skywalk and the Athabasca Glacier on a 3-hour tour. Ride on a huge ice explorer for a guided tour of the glacier, then walk on the Skywalk for photo-worthy views.
  • 3-hour ice explorer tour to Athabasca Glacier with visit to the Glacier Skywalk
  • Narrated tour of the Columbia Icefield on a rugged ice explorer vehicle
  • Stop to walk along the glacier
  • Access to the Glacier Skywalk
  • Flexible departure time
Your tour departs from the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre; tours are available between 10am and 5pm. Tours depart every 15 to 30 minutes, and you ticket is valid for any departure on the day you select.
Climb aboard a specialized ice explorer, an enormous, rugged vehicle built to handle the glacial terrain. As you travel through the largest icefield in the Canadian Rockies, listen to your guide's informative commentary. Pass sights such as the Weeping Wall, Crowfoot Glacier, Peyto Lake, and Bow Lake on what is widely considered one of Canada's most scenic drives.
At the Athabasca Glacier, hop out and walk along the glacier, where you can even fill up your water bottle with pure, pristine snowmelt.
On the return trip, stop at the Glacier Skywalk for refreshments and walk along the glass bottom walkway out over the cliff's edge. Then, back to the ice explorer for the final drive back to the Discovery Center and a return to your vehicle.

Definitely worth doing

Had a blast on this trip. Our guide, Captain Jack, had a lot of interesting facts and information about the area and the glaciers. They have 22 of the 24 ice explorers in the world so it's cool to experience riding in them. Get there early to get a spot, even after booking through viator. You have to check in and get an assigned time and for the glacier they almost filled up when we got there at 2:30. They scheduled ours for 4:45.
A Unique Experience

Standing on the Athabasca Glacier was an amazing experience. The view was spectacular. The skywalk was also fun.

We were disappointed with this tour. First of all we ordered the tickets via Viator and it took for ever for the cashier to get us the tickets (about 20 minutes). Then we had to wait almost 2 hours before we could go on the tour because when you book through Viator no timeslot is booked and you have to wait for the first available time. A regular bus takes you across the road to a point where the “special” busses are. This takes you up the glacier. You can walk around a small area for about 20-25 minutes and then you go back to the switch point. The regular bus takes you to the skywalk. Maybe it was because the tours had just started and the process was not very smoothly because we had to wait at every stop about 10 minutes to wait for another bus. Overall: the tour was not worth the money and booking through Viator is not recommended because there is no timeslot booked and you have to wait a long time.
Glacier adventure!

It was amazing! We had 30 minutes at the top of the glacier but no one stayed out there the full 30! Cold but glad I did it!

BE AWARE!!!! If you are booking through Viator, the time you pick is NOT the time you will go!!!! we booked a 10:30 tour, and when we got there to our SURPRISE, that is not the time you get. After we drove for 3 hour to get there, we found out, we couldn't get on a tour until 3:15pm!!! Viator lets you book the tour, but they don't book the actual times!!! YOU have to do that when you arrive at the tour!! I suggest you book with them directly and NOT VIATOR!!! Completely misleading!!

This trip was great however it was very busy when we were there and getting a time slot was not at all easy and we were very nearly dissapointed. I would recommend booking a time direct with the operator to ensure a slot, we were told at the desk had we arrived at 0930 that day we would not be able to take the trip until 4.45 that day....... not much to do around there if you have to hang around The trip itself was excellent, how amazing is a glacier close up!!

Everyone involved in the tour from the woman at the desk in the center to bus driver are friendly and knowledgeable. We learned quite a bit and had fun doing it. My friend fell on the glacier, I was so impressed at how fast the staff reacted and had her up in seconds. Well done!

No disappointment on the Glacier tour! 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Was cold and windy on the ice, but certainly tolerable for the 20 minute visit. Loved drinking the glacier water! Bring an empty water bottle. Definitely worth doing! Was less impressed with the skywalk, but it was nice enough -- SO crowded!!! Food we ordered in the discovery center for a fast lunch beforehand was not so great
