Rather disappointed. To make the most of our trip we opted for an early start and therefore arrived at the Chernobyl Exclusion zone at 9am. It was then we were told that Solo East had not submitted the paperwork the day before as required for an early start. As a result we had to wait at the gate for 1hour 45 minutes before being allowed to enter. As a result we encountered large tour groups in most locations and our whole tour was fairly rushed and we didn't get to see all the sites listed on the itinerary. We were supposed to be given a Geiger Counter each to use, but that didn't happen. Later in the tour the guide gave us his to use, but it is a shame we weren't given our own Geiger Counters to use as this was supposed to be included. We noticed that several other tour groups where every member of the tour group had their own counter. Lunch was at 3pm at the end of the tour before the drive back to Kiev which was extremely late considering we started the tour at 7am. Our guide was knowledgable and the tour was still very interesting, but we felt that the individual tour provided very poor value for money due to the administration mistakes made by Solo East. Whilst we queued for 1hour 45 minutes to get into the Chernobyl Site we saw the many other tour operators arrive, so there is clearly lots of choice. As a result we recommend you do the tour but use a different tour operator.

Chernobyl Tour from Kiev | Mar 2020
Took the one day tour on 14 March with Anya. What can I say? From pick up to drop off she was amazing. Anya was so knowledgable about Chernobyl and encouraged us to question her on anything. The trip was a present for my husband who has longed to do this trip for years. And it exceeded all expectations. Nothing was too much trouble for Anya. She even asked if there was anything in particular wanted to see and she would take us there. Lunch was provided which was chicken or pork and although not a la carte, it was lovely. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone who is thinking of doing it. The contact from Viator from the minute we booked until getting picked up was prompt. Unfortunately I think our tour was one of the last ones due to Coronavirus shutting down countries but if you ever get the chance to do, you should, before nature takes it all back and there is nothing left to see. It was a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget. Especially thanks to Anya!!

Chernobyl Tour from Kiev | Mar 2020
This was such a great experience for seeing the Chernobyl exclusion zone. The 2 hour ride from Kyiv was comfortable thanks to our driver, Sergiy, and informative thanks to videos and commentary from our guide, Yulia. We saw the Russian Woodpecker, Chernobyl, Chernobyl 2, and Pripyat, along with the power plant. The lunch that was included was very nice as well. If you want a more immersive experience I would suggest doing the 2 or 3 day trip with this same company, SoloEast Travel.

A day to remember

Chernobyl Tour from Kiev | Mar 2020
The tour was excellent. On route we were shown some documentaries of the sites to raise our anticipation. Then our knowledgable guide Tanya skillfully navigated us through the containment zone. The abandoned villages, the power plant itself and the evacuated city of Pripyat leave a hauntingly beautiful impression. We were able to explore the locations in a comfortable pace and never felt rushed. The lunch was excellent as well, located in the current Tchernobyl town. We had an amazing day and would recommend this to anyone with a thirst for urban exploring, history or adventure.

Chernobyl Tour from Kiev | Feb 2020
Everything about this trip was 10/10. Sasha our driver and guide was fantastic. Knowledgable, spoke very good English and friendly. The tour was unreal - chilling, but unreal. The things we covered and the understanding we gained was unbelievable. On our journey to Chernobyl, a video was prepared with key details and information which gave us more of an insight into the disaster. The food was great- it was a strange feeling to be eating in the cafeteria, however everything was safe. Overall it has been a trip we will never forget. Thank you Sash.

Good Trip Bad Roads

Chernobyl Tour from Kiev | Feb 2020
My wife and I watched the HBO film and decided we had to see the real thing. Overall a good experience, but first you have to brave the bus trip due to the poor conditions of the Ukrainian roads, fast driving, and (for us) sitting in the back. Fortunately, they do show good videos of the history of the site and incident. When we arrived at the first checkpoint I was a little concerned with the number of tour busses and people, but fortunately we saw surprisingly few people while we were on the tour. The tour definitely delivered what it advertised and was well worth the time and money. The only reason I did not give the tour a 5-star rating was that the guide did not really highlight how the incident at Chernobyl happened, just focused on what happened.

Great day trip to Chernobyl exclusion zone

Chernobyl Tour from Kiev | Nov 2019
I was in Kyiv traveling alone and went on a Saturday day trip to the Chernobyl exclusion zone. Once I arrived at the meeting place, everything seemed organized and I went in a van (space for 17 passengers - there were 14 on this day). Sergiy was a great driver and Diana was an interesting, funny and informative guide. My only regrets were that I didn't take a warmer jacket or rent a Geiger counter, but other people on the trip shared their readings with the group. I was surprised at how many tourists there were, but Diana and Sergiy planned our routes to try to avoid the larger groups of tourists at each location.

Brilliant day trip

Chernobyl Tour from Kiev | Oct 2019
Wonderful day trip to Chernobyl. We were a little concerned that the sheer number of groups doing this would mean we were in massive herds the entire time, but that wasn't the case. We had a small bus of about 20 people and a lot of the time it was just us. Group met promptly at the advised location, and boarding the bus and starting off was well organised. There were some documentaries played on the bus on the drive there, which were informative, if a little lacking in finesse in how they were stitched together. Alex (the driver) was excellent, despite other road users! Oleg (the guide) was also superb, well versed and with excellent English. My only small piece of constructive criticism would be for Oleg to slow down when speaking on the microphone in the bus - sometimes he was talking at such a speed it was difficult to fully understand what was being said. Highly recommended trip - great company. great organisation. great experience!

Chernobyl Tour from Kiev | Oct 2019
I really enjoyed this tour. Chernobyl is becoming much more touristic, but our guide Pasha was great at trying to keep us away from the crowd while still showing us everything. He was very nice and a good guide. It's a long day but it's totally worth it!
