What To Expect

Skip the stress of driving and navigating among dozens of different wineries, and let the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley whisk you through the vineyards. Make your way to the historic Sonoma Plaza midmorning, where you’ll meet your guide and climb aboard the beautiful trolley — a lovingly created replica of a vintage San Francisco cable car. Take a seat and enjoy the fresh valley air streaming through the windows as you cruise through Sonoma’s rolling hills and renowned vineyards.

Stop at three different wineries hand-picked for their welcoming atmosphere and excellent wines, and sample classic California varietals like chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and merlot (tasting fees not included). Winery hosts will be on hand to provide tasting notes and background on the wines you enjoy.

Midday, stop for a picnic lunch catered by a local favorite VJB Cellars. Savor a gourmet spread of sandwiches, side salads and desserts, served family style so you can pick and choose among the tasty offerings.

Throughout the day, your lively host provides commentary on passing attractions and brings to life fascinating chapters of California history. Learn about Sonoma’s past as a Spanish mission and hear local folklore as you roll past historic landmarks including the Mission San Francisco Solano, the Bear Flag Monument, General Vallejo's Soldier Barracks, the Sonoma and Swiss hotels and the charming town of Glen Ellen.

Your fun and historic tour concludes back at Sonoma Plaza.

Sonoma Valley

Your day in California wine country starts as you hop aboard the Sonoma Wine Trolley, modeled after the famous historical cable cars of San Francisco. Enjoy the breeze as your knowledgeable tour guide whisks you off to four outstanding Sonoma-area wineries, known for both their wines and their hospitality. Each wine tasting takes place at the winery and a representatives at each winery will explain the different varietals you’ll sample and the background of the wineries (wine tasting fees are not included and you can expect fees of $30 to $40). There will be wonderful photo opportunities on this tour and your friendly guide will be happy to take a photo or two of your group so you can document your memorable day in wine country.

I highly recommend taking this tour if you are in the Sonoma Valley area.
We would definitely recommend this tour and think the cost was reasonable.
This was a tad more than advertised, would probably cost less if we drove around ourselves.

Very good, but they need to visit more vineyards and not so many taste rooms. They only took us to 2 vineyards and 3 taste rooms.

Great experience. Lexi our driver was excellent and the other passengers on the trolley were all friendly and fun. Lunch was good and in a nice setting. Only negative would be the choice of some of the wineries. When you are paying the tasting fee at each winery there are better options in and around Sonoma.

Thank you for your review. We look at the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley as a package. Good tour, fun ride, meeting like minded people, group dynamic, and of course tastings. It can be difficult to accommodate the larger size groups at some wineries. But you are correct, there are over 600 wineries in Sonoma County. I think all of them have great wines. Some greater then others. Prices range from $25 - $250 per tasting. We try and stay under $40 but you are welcome to try the other 596+ others at your leisure.

The trolley it self was fun but only one winery, out of 3, was an experience. The 4th was retail wanting you to purchase a glass without the taisting. Nott worth it if you are looking for the wine experience.

Thank you for your review. Perhaps there is some misunderstanding. Your where riding in a sf cable car. That is an experience in itself. The 4 wineries or tasting rooms we go to all offer a tasting option. The 4th is a casual tasting/glass/bottle choice. You could have choose the tasting or could have chose nothing and just relaxed.

I Brought my sisters from Ohio to enjoy this wonderful experience on the line trolley.Everything was memorable, however I’m glad I took pictures just in case i forgot Lexi was so friendly and so sweet. Met good friends forever. NEED to upgrade lunch

With great wine and even better service it made for a memorable time for my wife and I. We met a lot of great couples and had a good time. A lot of history on the wineries, and the vineyards themselves. Amazing job at bringing this tour to life by Brian our conductor. We will be back, there’s so much to see in wine country.

A fun-filled day

A fun filled day and our driver Bryan was the best! We enjoyed hearing about the vineyards, the wineries we visited, and Sonoma in general. Lunch was great and the time spent at each stop was just right. We had a full trolley with 28 onboard but everyone was pleasant and we enjoyed visiting with a few of our fellow travelers.

Enjoyed this trip. Went to four wineries, all slightly different from one another. I was a bit disappointed that our group did not get notice that the time frame was extended by three hours. We had reservations at a separate venue at 3pm, and our trolley tour did not end until 5pm. Did not get to make it to this separate event, which was quite a bummer. Really would have been nice to be notified of this change prior to the tour.

Very sorry about the timing. We do list its about a 5-6 hour tour starting at 10:30 ending about 4:30. Sometimes there can be a group that like to stay at on stop for a bit longer. We are delighted that you shared with us and sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused.

Lexi(?) was the most wonderful driver and guide. So professional and friendly. The four wineries we visited were all very friendly, although we felt that we were not given much time to taste our different wine samples at the place we stopped for lunch (VJB?). The wine was lovely at all the stops. A wonderful day out in a beautiful part of the world.

BR Cohn had great atmosphere and VJB wineries had wonderful service, food and wine. Macy’s was not my favorite so would recommend changing the last winery on the tour. Our guide was great along with the trolley ride!
