Overview

The Taj Mahal in Agra is India’s most famous landmark, and it's accessible in a day from Delhi. This private round-trip takes you there, so you can admire one of the world’s greatest monuments and more of Agra before heading back. After admiring the UNESCO-listed marvel and learning its story from a private guide, explore Agra’s other highlight, the massive Red Fort. Includes private transport, guided visits, lunch, and shopping time in Agra.
  • Private day trip to the Taj Mahal and Agra Red Fort from Delhi
  • See the UNESCO-protected Taj Mahal, a royal marble mausoleum built in 1652
  • Admire the marble domes, towers, and terraces set in beautiful gardens
  • Learn the tragic love story behind the Taj, and how it took 22 years to build
  • Visit Agra Red Fort, a vast walled complex of Mughal palaces, courts and towers
  • Enjoy a buffet lunch and shopping time in Agra
  • Private return transfers from Delhi hotels or airport included, plus personalized attention from a private guide
Start your private trip with pickup from your Delhi hotel or Delhi airport, and travel to Agra by private, air-conditioned vehicle.

After roughly three hours, arrive and meet your local guide at the Taj Mahal entrance. Go inside (own expense), and get your first, spectacular view of the pearlescent-white marble monument.

Then, stroll through the gardens to get close-up to the ornate arcades, inner hall and terrace, built in Persian, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles.

Listen as your guide shares information about the building, commissioned by Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, in 1630 as a mausoleum for his queen, Mumtaz Mahal, and hear how it took a staggering 20,000 workers 22 years to complete.

Following your 1.5-hour tour, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before visiting Agra’s UNESCO-listed Red Fort, another Mughal masterpiece.

Enter the massive, walled fort (own expense), built in 1565, and meander through the courtyards, pavilions and halls, including the tower where Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son within view of the Taj, his late wife’s tomb.

Afterward, see more of Agra’s historical buildings before a spell of souvenir shopping and your return to Delhi, where your tour finishes with drop-off at the original departure point.

The guide and driver were beyond excellent... Beyond. Deepak was our guide and Ashok was our driver. Both lovely gentlemen. It was 44 degrees that day and I got sick after all that long day of heat but the tour itself was so so interesting. Red Fort and Taj Mahal were certainly more interesting than I thought ... 100 palaces inside Red Fort! I would recommend this trip but I would suggest to take a couple of flasks to keep water cold as it's incredibly hot if you go in April as we did.

Overall it was an interesting adventure. What could have been better is to have more historical info shared and less of taking us to the 'shops' to buy stuff. Driver was excellent. Safe and always looking out for us.
