Start your tour with hotel pickup in Panama City followed by a 2-hour cruise on the Panama Canal.
Travel north to the town of Gamboa where the Chagres River joins the canal. From there, board your boat for your cruise. Expect to see ships that are crossing between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and lots of wildlife when you reach Gatun Lake, where your boat circles small islands that were created during the construction of the canal. Take a spin around the Monkey Islands to get a good look at the resident capuchins, howlers, and tamarins.
After your cruise, drive along Pipeline Road in Soberania National Park, which shelters a mature rain forest and the Rainforest Discovery Center. There, you can walk up a ramp that circles the 100 foot high (32 m) observation tower. From different levels along the way up, look for a variety of birds and animals such as iguana, sloth, and monkeys. You can also follow a trail along the rainforest floor that offers a panoramic view of the lake.
At the center, sit down for a picnic lunch while hundreds of hummingbirds whir through the air to feed at nearby hummingbird feeders. After your visit to the Rainforest Discovery Center, return to Panama City where your tour ends with hotel drop-off.
