Combine nature, history, and technology on a full-day tour from Panama City that includes hotel pickup and drop-off, refreshments, and transport. Watch for wildlife on a scenic trip through the rainforest, visit the UNESCO-listed San Lorenzo Fort, then see the Panama Canal extension that moves New Panamax super tankers through a series of enormous locks.
  • Full-day combination tour from Panama City
  • See native wildlife in a natural environment
  • Visit a colonial-era UNESCO site
  • Tour the Panama Canal
  • Hotel pickup and drop-off included
  • Family friendly
Begin with pickup at your centrally-located Panama City hotel, then make the 1.5-hour trip to to Colón in an air-conditioned minivan or minibus. See the rainforest from the water on a 20-minute ferry ride, then go deeper into the forest by vehicle, with plenty of stops to sight wildlife: watch for sloths, monkeys, anteaters, and other mammals in the thick trees.
Continue to San Lorenzo Fort (entrance fees not included), which guarded the Caribbean end of the Las Cruces Trail, the overland route for Spanish treasures and gold from Central and South America. Learn the story of how the fort finally fell to the pirate Henry Morgan, who used it as a base for his historic attack on Panama City.
After visiting the fort, tour the Agua Clara section of the Panama Canal extension (entrance fees not included), which was inaugurated in summer, 2016. Find out how engineers raised the waterline of Gatun Lake, built new locks, and widened existing channels to accommodate New Panamax ships. You’ll have roughly 45-minutes to explore the locks before returning to Panama City, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.

Prompt pickup at our hotel then drive to Colon to get other guests. Stopped on side of road on the way as Mario our tour guide spotted a Sloth in a tree. Mario was very entertaining and had a wealth of knowledge on Panama's history. We really enjoyed the walk through rain forest seeing monkeys, birds and a Black Hawk. The Fort was cool and had great views of the Bay and forests. The Canal was interesting to see and watch the video presentation as informative to its construction. A little pricey entrance fee. All in all a worth while full day trip.

Very knowledgeable and interesting tour. Be aware that you will be traveling several hours to the north side of the country and will have to pay $15 to get into the locks there. Would still recommend. Also Mario made a special pickup for us and was very patient despite us missing the pickup point.

This was a great trip. Picked up from the hotel by the friendly, historian tour guide Marío. Going from one coast to another, and you explore the Caribbean side of the canal. I encourage anyone to go. Tip: bring cash and cameras. The drive to Fuerte San Lorenzo is chocked full of camera moments.

Really enjoyed everything we got to do. The Panama Canal visitor center is informative and provides an exceptional view of ships passing through. We also drove over the locks and ferry trip back across included so you get to see things from different angles. Mario is very accomodating and knowledgable and provides an enjoyable tour. The history of the fort was also interesting and was a lot of fun seeing the rain forest wildlife (sloths and monkeys) in their habitat. If you are prone to motion sickness, might want to take some medication prior as the roads can be winding. Overall very good value for your money and we felt we learned a lot. Thank you Mario!

Seeing the Colon area of Panama was great and driving away from Panama City, then through the rainforest to Ft Lorenzo. Our guides Oscar and Juliet were outstanding! The final activity was DRIVING over both the new and old Panamá Canals on a service road with ships in the locks - thrilling experience.

A trip to Colon was well worth it. Our guide, I'll call him Super Mario, was fantastic. Hotel pickup was prompt. He was courteous and yet with sense of humor and knowledgeable. Aqua Clara Locks were awesome. Wild animals (sloths, monkeys, sloths, etc.) were found in the rainforest. San Lorenz Fort was the highlight with lots of history and gorgeous panoramic views. No crowds. Very highly recommended

You will likely venture to the Pacific part of the canal while on your trip to Panama City, will this tour allows you to experience the canal from the Caribbean side, along with a stop in to UNESCO site, and a ride through the rainforest, where you will stop and look for monkeys, and other animals. Mario provides a lot of information regarding the history of the areas that you will visit.
