Bite into the history of French cheesemaking on this unique food tour in Paris. Make your way to a specialty cheese stop in the 3rd arrondissement, where you’ll meet your cheesemonger guide. Don a protective suit designed to preserve the delicate cheeses, and descend into a cool cellar filled with ripening blocks, rolls and wheels — some as large as 77 pounds (35 kg).
Learn about the traditional art of cheesemaking and the importance of the maturing process as you admire the cellar’s supply. Taste seven different varieties cut fresh from the block, such as Swiss Gruyère, bôfavre (a hard cheese from Switzerland's Jura Mountains), delicate Camembert, Etivaz (a hard cheese originating in the Alps) and Beaufort (a raw cow’s milk cheese).
Alternate bites of fragrant fromage with sips of fantastic French wine paired for complementary flavors. Also nibble on fresh baguettes and fruit to complete your gourmet tasting experience. After your tasting tour, emerge back into the streets of Paris as a newly minted wine-and-cheese connoisseur.
If you love cheese and wine, then make a point to do this tour. Our tour guide was great! He taught us so much about French cheese and the proper tasting technique. He has changed the way we eat cheese going forward. The cheese cellar is really just a large refrigerator upstairs filled with aging cheese, so don't have hopes that you will be going underground to a cool historic cellar (which is what I pictured when booking). That said, still 5 stars for the delicious cheese, wine, and knowledge that came from this tour.
The wine and cheese tasting event was a lot of fun. Our guide was very well informed and made the subject interesting. The only problem of the event was half the people that signed up did not show up on time. Be courteous to others, people, and get there on time!
We had a wonderful time on this tour. Richard came to pick us up at the hotel at the previously agreed time, we picked up other people and had a fun ride towards champagne with Richard's jokes. We visited Moet & Chandon, had lunch at a local wine bar with less known champagne tasting and then went to see a small champagne house with yet more tastings. Richard was very knowledgeable, always making sure all guests were doing well and super fun. Beautiful day, great champagne, we were extremely happy about everything.
My friend and I really enjoyed this cheese and wine tasting, the cheese and wine were delicious and paired very well. It was also very informative. Would recommend to anyone who is in Paris and wants to learn more about cheese.
Our host was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Good to see inside his cheese cave. We had 6 types of cheese that we would not have been likely to try anywhere else, including the stinky orange cheese....wirh matching wine. A fun experience
I thoroughly enjoyed this cheese and wine tasting experience. Guillaume was so knowledgeable about the history and process of cheese-making - I learned so much. And the tasting was a real eye-opener. I was amazed by how the cheese and wine interact on the tongue to form new flavors. A really informative and fun experience!
This was such a great time! Pierre covered all the aspects of cheese making and then brought us to the cellar and a charming table setting of cheeses and wine. Pierre walked us thru each cheese, how to smell, taste, savor each one, and complement it with wine. He also brought additional wine and cheeses into the tasting as he was so excited to share his passion with us. We loved it! Thanks from the Sullivan Sisters!
