After hotel pickup in Paris, your day Napoleon-themed day tour starts with the 7-mile (12-km) drive outside the city to Rueil-Malmaison, a suburb where you’ll find Château de Malmaison, a country house that was home to Napoleon I and his first wife, Joséphine de Beauharnais, during the early 1800s.

Tour the château with your guide to learn about the life of France’s first emperor and empress and how they used the estate as the headquarters of the French government until 1802. Explore the restored rooms of the estate, including original furniture and artwork, and enjoy the outdoor gardens. Hear about Joséphine’s collection of exotic plants and animals, which she believed turned the property into the most "beautiful and curious garden in Europe."

Next, sit down to your 3-course lunch (see a sample menu below) before visiting the church in nearby St-Pierre-St-Paul, where Joséphine rests in peace next to her daughter, Hortense (Napoleon III’s mother). Then head back to Paris to visit Les Invalides, a dome-topped complex of military buildings that are home to monuments, museums and tombs, including Napoleon I’s. Head inside the church with your guide to see the emperor’s final resting place underneath the golden cupola, and listen to commentary from your guide about Napoleon’s role during the French Revolution, his controversial time as France’s leader and his death.

Your tour then ends with hotel drop-off.
