Discover Costa Rica's enchanting Pacific rain forest from the air and water on this combo shore excursion from Puntarenas. Walk through the treetops on a series of hanging bridges at a private biological reserve, and then cruise down the Tarcoles River, home to a famous community of crocodiles. In between the eco adventures, enjoy time to shop and snack at a quaint replica of a Spanish colonial settlement.
  • Combo eco shore excursion from Puntarenas
  • Walk through the rain forest canopy on a suspended trail and hanging bridges
  • Observe native wildlife like monkeys and exotic birds
  • Make a shopping stop in the charming village of Santa Lucia
  • Cruise through a biological reserve on the Tarcoles River
  • Includes port pickup and drop-off and a fresh fruit snack
When your cruise ship docks at Puntarenas in the morning, meet a waiting driver and guide at the port and hop aboard an air-conditioned minivan for a scenic drive to the Villa Lapas private biological reserve. Here, be surrounded by the majesty of Costa Rica's unspoiled tropical and dry rain forest on the 1.5-mile (2.5-km) SkyWay walking trail. Cross three suspended bridges perched at 180 feet (56 meters) above the forest floor and each stretching an incredible 300 feet (91 meters) in length.

The bridges are built with the highest safety standards, and experienced guides will accompany you to ensure your safety and point out highlights of the enchanting jungle. As you trek, take in spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and keep an eye out for native wildlife like monkeys, anteaters, poison dart frogs, and hundreds of bird species.

After completing the SkyWay trail, take a break to relax and shop for unique souvenirs in the nearby village of Santa Lucia, a replica of a Spanish colonial settlement. Enjoy a snack of tropical fruit and iced tea here before transferring to the Tarcoles River, which snakes along the northern border of the Carara Biological Reserve. Take a river cruise along the biodiverse waterway, where you can watch one of the world’s largest wild crocodile populations basking in the sun.

Your tour concludes with drop-off back at the cruise terminal, where you can return to your waiting ship or spend some time strolling along the nearby boulevards of Puntarenas.

Excellent service provided by the guide. Got a chance to see crocodiles in the wild.

The captain of the boat knows where to find the crocodiles and had no problem bringing us very close to see them. He even attracted the crocodile to open its mouth by hitting the water with a piece of chicken leg. Well worth the money.

This was a great mix of walking through the rainforest and a ride on the river. Even time for a little shopping at the end. It is important that anyone considering this tour be capable of walking a mile on some uneven and loose trail. Our group had a couple that really struggled and slowed up the group. Our guide, Miguel, was excellent and made this a very enjoyable experience. I really recommend this as an option to the cruise excursions offered by the cruiselines. Group was small - about 14 people. I highly recommend Greenway Tours.

We chose this tour instead of the cruise ship offerings and were certainly not disappointed. We started with an interesting ride in our van through the Costa Rica countryside to the Tarcoles River. We transferred to a flat bottomed river boat where the local guides took over, searching out the prolific bird life as well as the American Crocodiles basking in the sun. We stopped to see one huge guy, about 18 feet long, which was an amazing sight but who is well fed by the guides so hes waiting for the encounter. From the river, we headed into the hills, stopping at a hotel the see what was supposed to look like a colonial village and to have a cold drink before setting out onto the skywalk through the forest. It was a very hot day so nothing was moving in the trees but crossing the hanging bridges was interesting especially since we had group members afraid of heights!. We hiked for about an hour before gratefully getting back on the air conditioned van. Our last unnecessary stop was to a highly over-priced and tourist trap for half an hour. Throughout, our guide kept up a running commentary that was very informative and interesting. He ranged from sights to hisory to current events. He was knowledgeable and friendly and definitely was an asset. Although there were a few blips during the day, I would definitely recommend this tour.

Forgot my tour guide's name. But! He was super. He made the flora and fauna interesting. Saw monkeys on the road to the rainforest. It was a fun roadside pause. The rainforest hike was delightful, the walking in the trees is just crossing 2 very long suspension bridges across and through the forest. Quite pleasant, actually. Did not see many birds or mammals. But it was a very enjoyable walk. Info about the insects, flowers and trees was fascinating. Tarcoles River was at low tide so we missed some of the chance to go farther and perhaps see more. However, there were several small crocodiles and lots of birds that we did enjoy. Our guide was loaded with info about the gators and birds. We stopped at a very classy souvenir shop...probably could have spent hours there, good thing our time was limited! When your stop in Costa Rica is short, this was a wonderful experience.

Oh wow! The most exceptional tour ever!! Highly recommended!! In fact, this tour was the biggest highlight for our 11 year old son. It was hands-on, up-close, incredibly informative, and wonderful in every way. We couldn't have asked for a better tour guide. Hopefully some of our many pictures will help you see how awesome we thought it was. Can't wait to go on more of your tours! Thank you Viator!!!!! 3

The tour company, Greenway Travels were great. Met on time, a very interesting tour, led by Alberto. Very enthusiastic and went out of way to ensure we saw wildlife. He went out of his way to ensure everyone had a great day. Recommend! Tour was meant to be 5hrs but in fact was nearer to 7hrs, ensuring that we saw everything his country could offer in the time.

We have never met a more knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide than Alberto. If someone didn't see the avacado in the tree, the monkey or crocodile, etc., he made sure you did. He cared about each individual person on our tour and didn't treat us as a group. We were never hurried along. HE made every effort to make sure we had a great day in his country. Give him a raise. He deserves it! We highly recommend him and this tour. Thanks Alberto for the great day. Randy, Marilyn and Jeff.

The rainforest skywalk was excellent but it should be noted that anyone with a mobility issue should not do it as the walk involved some uneven terrain and a bit of climbing. The Tarcoles River Eco Cruise was also excellent - saw lots of crocodiles and a variety of birds. The one issue we had is that our tour guide did not have our name on his list. We had our voucher from Viator and he did let us on the very comfortable and air-conditioned bus with our friends with whom we booked and their names were all there. But there were a few tense minutes until he invited us to join them!!!

What an incredible experience seeing eco-friendly Costa Rica! Our guide was super friendly and attentive to the group. Walking in the rainforest over hanging bridges was spectacular--incredible views, flora and fauna. Then the river boat cruise billed as an hour but closer to 80 minutes with super knowledgable guides pointing out a multitude of birds, iguanas, and saltwater crocodiles. We were all shocked to see our guide jump onto the riverbank near an 18 foot croc and start teasing her with food--capped off by a kiss omn her snout after the feeding show! Highly recommended.
