Embark on a unique whale-watching cruise at night, aided by the glow of Iceland’s ‘midnight sun.’ Because the sun doesn’t fully set during the summer months, you can observe the nocturnal habits of dolphins and whales under the colorful light of this northern phenomenon. Learn about Iceland’s native marine life through a multimedia show on board, and spot sea creature splashing around during a 2.5-hour night cruise from Reykjavik’s Old Harbour.
  • 2.5-hour Reykjavik whale watching tour in the midnight sun
  • Learn about Icelandic whales from an onboard multimedia show
  • Make the most of the Icelandic summer sun and see wildlife at night
  • Look out for marine life such as humpback whales and harbor porpoises
  • Enjoy the tranquillity of being at sea by night
Due to Iceland’s extreme northern latitude, the sun never fully dips below the horizon during the months of June and July. Take advantage of this magical ‘midnight sun’ with nighttime whale-watching cruise. The adventure begins at the Whale Watching Centre at Reykjavik Old Harbour, where you’ll board a sturdy boat in the evening. Be sure to bundle up, as even summer nights are chilly (warm coveralls are provided if you need them).

As you cruise away from the harbor, watch a short, onboard multimedia show for an introduction to Iceland’s marine life. Once out on the open water, claim a spot on the deck to look out for humpback and minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises. Your ship’s friendly crew will assist in spotting and identifying the sea life.

Admire the colorful hues of the night sky as the sun hovers just above the horizon, and enjoy the tranquil sights and sounds of the illuminated sea when the captain cuts the engine. Warm up inside the ship’s Wi-Fi–equipped cabin if you like.

After 2.5 hours on the water, you ship returns to the harbor around 11 pm.

We had the best experience seeing whales on this excursion. We were blessed enough to see 2 humpback whales breaching and playing in the midnight sun along with some minke whales. It was a truly magnificent experience. Loved every minute of this excursion!

Mother nature has its ways of course, and we didn't see any whales unfortunately Either bad luck or wrong timing and they were asleep we sailed off at 20:30, saw two hump backs from far but they took a deep dive. The clothing they supplied really kept you warm, I mean nobody owns clothes warm enough to last for few hours in the open ocean! But the boat didn't have much indoor space, so it felt crowded once everybody wanted to hide from the wind on the way back.

It was a great experience - it was awhile before we saw anything, but our tour continued until we saw a humpback whale. Very memorable!

Didn't see too many whales, that was towards the end of the trip, before we returned to Reykjavik. The guide was very informative. But what we did see was amazing. But also to be out at sea, so far north, so late with daylight, and then almost sunset. Very surreal. The entertainment in the bar on the return trip to Reykjavik was great fun. returned to reykjavik around midnight. Still daylight, although shadowless, with no direct sunlight. Pleasantly eerie!

We just followed one whale around the whole time. Not much fun. It was cool to go at night but certainly not worth the amount paid. The best part was the live singer on the boat on the way back. Without him, this would have been a wasted evening.

We had a great time on the midnight tour! We saw minke and humpback whale, and had live entertainment on the way back. Our original tour was rebooked because of the weather conditions. Eldin tours were very accommodating .

I cannot see any whale during the trip. I understand that this is nature, so it is not the problem of the company or the tour. The company offers complementary ticket for me to join the same tour the next day. Yet, I have to leave the next day. Therefore, I did not enjoy this benefit.

Didn't see anything, but they did a great job, and offered us a free tour at a later date, even the next day. Lots of fun, too bad we didn't see anything.
