Why Travelers Choose This Tour
Visiting the DMZ without a guide is impossible—choose this express half-day tour if you’re on a time budget.
After hotel pickup in Seoul, your tour starts with the drive to Imjingak Park to see the Freedom Bridge, a symbol of the tragedies of the Korean War. Then head toward the Korean Demilitarized Zone to visit the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, which the North Korean Army used to infiltrate South Korea. With a provided helmet, you can walk down to the tunnel, and then you'll have time to browse the DMZ Exhibition Hall to see displays of old weapons, a short film about Korea's history, and other information about the Korean War. Next, visit Dora Observatory for a view of North Korea, which you can see using the onsite telescopes aimed at the propaganda village, and then continue to Dorasan Station, the last station before the border with North Korea, where you can get a souvenir stamp that mimics an immigration stamp. Make your way back to Seoul at this point, passing by Unification Village and stopping at the Korean Ginseng Center before drop-off at Seoul City Hall, where your tour ends.
The tour met expectations for what could be covered in a half day. The information about each site was sufficient but by no means a history lesson. Our guide Ms. Shiny was very helpful, could speak excellent English, and did a lot to make the tour fun.
Note: There is a stop by a ginseng shop on the way back. I’m guessing a partnership of some kind that took around 30 minutes. Opt for the more expensive “no shopping” option if you’d like to avoid this.
We very much enjoyed our trip to the DMZ. We went on a Tuesday, which we were told was a busy day (Tuesday and Saturday cruise boats from China are in port). That said, our guide Sadie was great and filled our time with good information and a was very organized. We would highly recommend this tour to others.
Very interesting to see the DMZ, view the border with N. Korea and hear about the history. Our guide Kim was knowledgeable. The tunnel was a major climb, I have walking difficulties so only went part way down before coming back up, and my family told me that was a good thing, and do wear the helmet if you're tall. We enjoyed the tour.
Pick ups are between 10am and 11am at various locations in Seoul if you are the first pick up you will spend the next 90 minutes driving around picking up the rest of the group. Our tour guide spent 30 mintes looking/waiting for 2 members of the group who didn't arrive on time. Due to the late start we did not have ample time to explore any of the destinations. Only 30 minutes at Imjin Park. Also note that if you purchase the tour without shopping you still have to endure the drive to the outlet and then transfer to another vehicle before being dropped off at your pick up location. Lastly the bus itself was old and not in good repair. I was surprised it made it to the DMZ and back.
Our guide Kim, was really passionate about the subject of the DMZ's history and it came through when he spoke. We hit a few spots, the observatory, the third tunnel, and freedom bridge. It did feel a little rushed but it was in the name of beating other tours to the locations so the wait wouldn't be too long. I thoroughly enjoyed it, learned a lot, and felt like my money's worth for sure. Definitely book this tour!
My wife and I visited Seoul for the express purpose of visiting the DMZ. WE were not disappointed. The bus trip there was comfortable, with a knowledgeable and friendly guide. He gave us a lot of helpful information on the trip. We were excited to be able to see the North Korea from the lookout tower, to go down into a tunnel that dug by North Korea and found by South Korea. Our guide was friendly and helpful. We would recommend this trip to the DMZ.
We has a great tour, Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate and gave us a great background into history surrounding the DMZ. We could have spent more time at freedom bridge and less time at Dorasan Station, but all in all, we didn't feel like we were rushed. The Dora observatory and the 3rd infiltration tunnel were definitely worth the visit and I would certainly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area.
It was ok, our tour guide was great. However it all feel very rushed and really could have done without the stop at the Korean ginsen center. I understand it is a tourist destination however the whole thing felt very touristy. Not sure I could recommend it to a friend
