Returns to original departure point
Make your own way to the boat dock at Circular Quay to board the spacious vessel that takes you out on the waters of Sydney Harbour. Soak up views of the waterfront, skyline, and famous landmarks including Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, and Fort Denison as your boat cruises across the scenic harbor to the north shore, where you disembark for the zoo.

With your Taronga Zoo admission ticket and cruise, you can take the Sky Safari gondola from the waterfront up the hill to the main entrance of the zoo. Peek out of the windows of the fully-enclosed gondola cabin for an aerial perspective on some of the zoo's residents.

Once inside the zoo, enjoy the many exhibits at your own pace. More than 2,900 animals live here in 10 themed areas—including Wild Australia, Wild Asia, and the Great Southern Oceans. The enclosures mimic the natural habitat of each creature. Check the daily schedule for keeper talks, which focus on animals such as Tasmanian devils, little penguins, giraffes, lemurs, and koalas. You may want to watch the seals in action at Seal Theatre or catch the free-flight bird show, where birds of prey demonstrate their hunting skills.

Enjoy sweeping views of iconic sights such as Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House both from your boat cruise and the Taronga Zoo, aka 'the zoo with the view.'

Taronga Zoo also has many picnic areas; feel free to bring a picnic basket and enjoy lunch with views of Sydney Harbour, or purchase food at one of the on-site cafes or restaurants. When you have finished your zoo visit, simply return to the dock to catch the cruise back to Circular Quay.

First time in Australia from the U.K., the trip to Taronga was great! Ferry on time, friendly staff & made us a memorable time. The time Taronga was far exceeded our expectations! Beautiful, clean, brilliant animals & staff, very friendly & helpful - didn’t want to leave!

The Taronga Zoo is incredible. I would recommend going for a few hours so you can see all the unique animals they have.

Wonderful zoo but incorrect ferry information.

The zoo was wonderful, but incorrect information was given to us that we could use the 1pm hop on hop off ferry as well as the regular ferries for our trip back to Sydney. We wasted 2 hours of our time waiting for the next ferry.

The Zoo with the View!!!!

A wonderful zoo, but a lot of up and down walking. I actually preferred Featherdale Park as it was more of a hands-on zoo with more interaction with the animals. However, I did like the views of Sydney from the zoo. We actually have much better zoos back home in Milwaukee and Chicago.

Waste of a day

We were very excited to visit our first Australian zoo. However, the best part of this day was the ferry trip. The grounds of the zoo going downhill are quite nice. However, we barely saw any animals. The only interesting zone was the one with nocturnal animals, which allows you to see original creatures in the dark. Other than that, we were very disappointed. They only had 2 kangaroos (seriously?), the one gorilla was nowhere to be seen, we did not get a view of the Tasmanian devil, and many other animals just seemed to be missing from their enclosure. We did not see any keepers doing presentations (most exhibits only had 1 keeper presentation per day). Worst part is the restaurant actually closes at 2:30pm (though the zoo closes at 5pm), so basically we were not even able to have a late lunch. I don’t understand this, why not stay open during the zoo‘s business hours?? Not worth a day of our vacation.

I used the Cook Ferry to get from downtown Sydney (couple blocks from my hotel) to the Tauranga Zoo and back. Good trip both ways and friendly staff to answer my questions.

Kid friendly activity

Traveling with kids can be hard so you need to find activities so everyone can enjoy. This is one of them, we enjoyed the ferry ride overlooking the harbour and it's beautiful Opera House. Then we took the cable car all the way up to the top of the zoo, great views from up there. Then got to see some animals that we were looking forward to like platypus, kangaroos, koalas and some other animals. Overall a great place for the kids to run around, enjoy nature and get their energy out.
