For details on each day of the tour, see the Itinerary section below.

Itinerary

Day 1: Taipei – Sun Moon Lake
You’ll be picked up at your hotel in Taipei for a drive south to Sun Moon Lake, located in the lofty mountains of central Taiwan about 2,500 feet (762 meters) above sea level.

Around the lake — the largest body of water in Taiwan — stop at Wenwu Temple or Literature Warrior Temple, dedicated to Confucius and Kuan Ti, the Protector of Buddhism. You’ll also visit Holy Monk Shrine and Tse-En Pagoda. Proceed to your hotel for check-in and relax in the nearby natural hot springs.
Overnight: 5-star Fleur De Chine or similar near Sun Moon Lake

Day 2: Sun Moon Lake – Kaohsiung (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, drive to Fo Guang Shan Monastery, one of the most famous Buddhist sites in southern Taiwan. Here, take a walking tour to learn about Buddhist culture. Communicate with some of the monks and nuns during a visit to the Main Shrine, where you will find a massive Buddha statue, and feel free to eat a traditional vegetarian lunch here (own expense).

Afterward, drive to Kaohsiung, the second-largest city in Taiwan. Stop at Former British Consulate, pass by Love River (Ai River), and stroll through Lio Ho Night Market.

Overnight: 5-star Grand Hi-Lai Hotel in Kaohsiung or similar

Day 3: Kaoshiung – Kenting – Taitung (B)
Have breakfast and then take a morning tour to Kenting National Park, located on the southern tip of Taiwan. The 37 miles (60 km) of coral-rimmed shoreline along three sides of the park provide many notable attractions. Inside the park, stop at the Oluanpi lighthouse, the Maobitou scenic coastal area and the forest recreation area. Then, continue your drive to Taitung, where you’ll stay overnight.

Overnight: 5-star Hotel Royal Chihpen or similar in Taitung

Day 4: Taitung – Hualien (B)
Start your morning with breakfast before taking an exciting tour of the East Coast National Scenic Area, an unspoiled parcel of land stretching 106 miles (170 km) down the east coast of the island. Erosion and weather conditions have produced a wide range of landforms here.

On your tour, stop at Siaoyeliou, Sanxientai or Sanxiantai (Terrace of the Three Immortals), all scenic spots featuring interesting land formations. You’ll also see the Sanxiantai Bridge, Caves of the Eight Immortals and Shitiping, step-like rocks formed by coral reefs.

In the late afternoon, proceed to Hualien for an overnight stay.

Overnight: 5-star Silks Place Taroko or similar in Hualien

Day 5: Hualien – Taipei (B)

After breakfast, you’ll have the whole day visit to Taroko National Park with your guide. See Taroko Gorge, an exceptionally beautiful, narrow marble gorge created by the Liwu River and cut deep into the mountains. See the road that's carved into the rock walls, winding its way under forested peaks and towering cliffs.

Stop at several notable natural sites here, like Eternal Spring Shrine, Swallow Grotto, Tunnel of Nine Turns, Marble Bridge, Tienhsiang and even a marble factory.

At the end of your tour, you’ll head back to Taipei and arrive in the evening.

This tour is very well organised, and covers the whole island. Fair bit of travelling, but regular stops and interesting and informative sessions on TV screens in the bus. Very good hotels. Guide was pleasant and helpful and spoke very good English. A great experience!

Excellent hotels; 2 of the 4 hotels had natural hot springs in the room. Great deal for the money. The tour guide Eric and the driver Godzilla were excellent. If you are going to Taiwan anyway and have several days there, then this is an excellent tour to get to know this country rather than just visiting Taipei.

I took this tour starting on 12/24/18 and our guide was Isaac Lee. It was great that despite Taipei being very rainy, the rest of Taiwan was sunny and comfortable. Isaac was a great guide with spoke very well in both Mandarin Chinese and English. Two pleasant surprises were that two places that were not listed in the Viator's itinerary was included: 1) A boat cruise in Sun Moon Lake, and 2) A river cruise on the Love River in Kaohsiung. What prevents my rating as 5 stars is that there were three discrepancies listed Viator's itinerary that the guide did not take us to:#1. On Day 3, Kenting Park's Forest Recreation Area was listed but we did not go there.#2. On Day 4, Caves of the Eight Immortals was listed but we simply drove past without stopping.#3. On Day 5, Tienhsiang was listed inside Taroko Gorge National Park, but we did not head west all the way to Tienhsiang.

From the beginning to the end of the tour, my husband and I were impressed. The beautiful sights, excellent hotels, good people, and especially great food. Even though all breakfasts were included, Ernie and I never received a bad meal. And the breakfast, was unbelievable. It was buffet, but not the type of buffet that you would find in Canada or the USA. It was much more than that. You will find the traditional foods such as potatoes, eggs and bacon/sausage. But the different types of vegetables and fruits will amaze you. Ernie gained some weight and I lost 4 lbs...4.81 kgs.The hotels were truly 5 star hotels. The service was the best, from the front desk agents on down the line. I felt that I was the King of England with all of the service that we received. FYI...if you are not used to the rooms and you turn on the lights and they don't come, there is a slot next to the entrance lights that you need to put your room key in to keep the lights on in your room. This may save you a half an hour in attempting to figure out the lighting systems. For me, the best stop was at Marble Gorge. The Hotel was in the middle of the Gorge. It was quite secluded from civilization and it was quite relaxing. They had three Mountain Stream pools with one of the sets of pools marked for nude bathing, along with a steam room/sauna. I totally enjoyed that myself. I would totally recommend this tour (with or without the nude bathing) as you get to see some of the most beautiful country of Asia and the history is some of the most interesting facts that take you back thousands of years.

We really enjoyed the trip. The hotels were excellent, breakfast was very good quality and the guide was knowledgeable.

Our tour guide (Isaac) and driver (Godzilla) were superb, and the bus and accommodations were beyond reproach. My reason for four stars instead of five was that we spent so much time on the bus getting from one place to another, that we didn't have much time to explore at some spots, such as Kenting National Park, that I would have given my right hand to see more of. I don't see any way around this, other than to pick a tour that lasts a couple more days. Overall, an excellent value, just a bit rushed at some of the stops.

This is the best tour of Taiwan that we ever experienced with. Alan Chou was our tour guide and we were so happy to have him as our tour guide. He is very efficient, hilarious and very knowledgeable of those areas we’re going to. We love the tour.

Our family of four 2 parents and 2 adult children in their 20's took the 5-day Best of Taiwan tour by Edison Travel Service and LOVED it!.

Our guide John Chan was awesome! He provided a lot of information about Taiwan and also kept us entertained with fun facts and jokes. John is very knowledgeable about Taiwan's history, culture, and attractions. We enjoyed having him as our tour guide.

The bus/coach was comfortable with good air conditioning, USB charging at every seat, and free WIFI. Our bus did not have a bathroom onboard, but there were plenty of opportunities for restroom breaks. Also, plenty of bottled water was provided throughout the tour.

The hotels are indeed 5-star quality. Before booking the tour, I was skeptical of the accommodations given the price of the tour itself. We were pleasantly surprised!

We stayed at the following hotels: Fleur De Chine, Grand Hi-Lai Hotel, Hotel Royal Chihpen, Silks Place Taroko.

The tour bus was very comfortable. It is a bus tour so the schedule is pretty much set, if you are not used to use this kind of service, it might feel a little bit forced. The bus driver was an awesome driver. I think it would be very hard to drive that big bus through street of Taiwan. The tour guild, Alan Chou was very knowledgeable, he had a little bit of dry humor so sometime felt a little sarcastic but funny. The hotels were the highlights of the trip, there were awesome hotels. Breakfast that was included, was awesome. We saw the most famous spots of the whole island in 5 days, so it was very fast paced. Next time I go to Taiwan with my family, I would buy this package again.
