Gusar is the northernmost settlement of the country (from large cities), it has about 90,500 people, and the direct distance to Baku is 180 km. People settled in this area from the end of the 2nd millennium BC. There are many monuments and attractions of different eras. If we consider folk crafts, then the most widespread is carpet weaving, in particular, the creation of lint-free carpets. Such products are created either in home machines or in the city center. There is located a large weaving shop with a unique feature – inside it, and there is the largest (ten-person) looms in all of Azerbaijan.

The famous Ganja fortress, known as "The Shield of Asia" was built by the leader of Turkish army in the Caucasus Farhad Pasha according to the order of the Turkish Sultan Murad III in 1588. The total length of the walls, erected 7 km away from the historic center of Ganja, reached 13.7 km and height - 12 m. Only one fragment of the fortress walls remained, and now is called "Shiralibay’s Tower." In 2007 it was reconstructed.
Shahdag Mountain Resort
The Shahdag tourism complex, the first ski resort in Azerbaijan, is located in the northeast in Shahdag National Park, named after the iconic Mount Shahdag in the Gusar region of Azerbaijan. Shahdag has pistes both for beginners and real professionals – 14 ski slopes of varying levels of complexity stretch 17 kilometres. Each trail is prepared with the help of artificial snow generators, which prolongs the ski season longer and improves the quality of the pistes. Today, the complex includes four high-class hotels built in line with European standards and people continue to come even in summer when activities such as horse riding, quad biking and paintballing are available, or you may simply wish to escape the city's hustle and bustle and enjoy the beautiful countryside.
Skiing in Tufandag
The ski season starts on 15th December and continues until 31 March at Gabala's Tufandag ski resort. Here, the 15 kilometres of ski slopes provide some unforgettable moments. There are green and blue ski slopes for beginners and moderate skiers, and red and black slopes for advanced and professional skiers.
