The Basics

Forty of the palace’s 1,441 rooms are open to the public, including the private apartments of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth (Sisi), as well as the exquisite 18th-century rooms of Maria-Theresa—the only female ruler of the Habsburg dynasty. The vast palace gardens are also a must-see, with a spectacular palm house made from iron and glass, a hedge maze, and a labyrinth. Visit on a skip-the-line tour to beat the crowds and benefit from the knowledge of an expert guide, or opt for a private tour for a more personalized experience. For an evening of culture and music, attend a live concert in the Schönbrunn Palace Orangery and listen to famous works by Mozart and Strauss. Or, get an overview of the city and the palace on a Vienna city tour, stopping at other highlights such as the Vienna Opera House, the Danube River, and the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

Lisa was a great tour guide and made this visit complete! Having an expert historian to talk us through the rooms, art, and explain symbolic gestures was priceless. Loved her ability to answer additional questions!

it was just a memorable evening, spent with family, during our trip to Vienna together and experiencing things we would not ordinarily experience.

Skip-the-Line Schonbrunn Palace Guided Tour and Vienna Historical City Tour
Great tour with personal stories about Vienna and Hapsburgs. Highly recommend staying after the formal tour to view the gardens. The palace gardens take at least two additional hours to see it all. We used the U-Bahn to return to our hotel, Vienna has great urban transportation.

Our guide Billy was outstanding! Very informative and engaging. She kept the tour moving on time yet shared a wealth of information. I feel very fortunate to have had her as our guide.

Skip-the-Line Schonbrunn Palace Guided Tour and Vienna Historical City Tour
The tour and guides were excellent. However, mixing two languages on the same coach/bus was maddening. I would not have booked the tour if I had known every piece I’d information was going to be communicated in two languages. I just joined a tour this morning and we have the same situation. Will not book again through Viator.

Our tour guide, Allie, absolutely made the day. She is dynamic, smart, fun, and engaging!!! We are so glad we booked this tour and feel lucky we got her as our guide!!! The Schonbrunn is a must see in Vienna and this 2 hour tour, given the heat (80 degrees) was just the right amount of time. You can see more on your own if desired but for us it was perfect.

Skip-the-line Schonbrunn Palace Rooms & Gardens Private Tour
Touring this palace with a private tour guide was excellent. I think you get much more out of it with the guide and just a few people. Our tour included transport by van to and from our hotel. This was good because we had another tour booked for later in the day. In hindsight, I would have liked to do return transport by train, so we could have stayed longer.

Exclusive Evening at Schönbrunn Palace: After-Hours Audiotour, Dinner, Concert
The After-Hours Tour of the Palace was uncrowded. The dinner and dessert were delicious. It was the only time we had apple strudel on the entire 3-week trip in Europe. The Conductor really interacted with the audience and the orchestra and opera singers were so professional. It was a lively concert. The only negative, the tour guide lead us to the restaurant from the palace. She walked as though she did not care if we were able to keep up with her.

Lovely palace. Much Asian influence in many rooms. Level of tour chosen determines rooms viewed. Unfortunately, no photos allowed.
