Why Travelers Choose This Tour

This cost-effective tour covers Amsterdam’s Jewish sites while including a guide to provide context.
Meet your guide and small group of no more than 15 people in central Amsterdam in time for departure. Set out to explore the city’s historic Jewish Quarter on foot, stopping to admire landmarks such as the Jewish Historical Museum and the Portuguese Synagogue.

Along the way, learn more about Amsterdam’s troubled past, as you hear about the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands between 1940 and 1945, and the effects of the brutal regime not only on the Jewish community but on the everyday lives of all those living in Amsterdam. See the head office of the Jewish council and hear about key events such as the Winter of Hunger and the February Strike as you pass monuments like the Dokwerker and the Auschwitz Monument.

You’ll also learn more about the Dutch resistance and how they offered secret hiding places to families like the Franks. Your tour ends outside the Anne Frank House, where you’ll learn more about her now-legendary diaries and how they came to be published by her father Otto Frank. Entrance to the museum is not included, but you can opt to visit independently after the tour.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Joods Historisch Museum
Travel back to the dark days of World War II on a 2-hour walking tour of Amsterdam, and learn what life was like following the occupation of the Netherlands by the Germans in 1940-1945 and how Anne Frank became an icon of the brutality of suppression. Hear the story about her diary and how it came to be published by her father Otto Frank. Meet your guide in front of the entrance of the Jewish Historical Museum, 15 minutes before the designated starting time of your tour. Stroll past monuments and buildings still marked by traces of war. Your guide will bring the history to life, giving you a sense of how the city’s citizens behaved during the occupation, and how they moved around in times of horror. Learn why the Dutch tried to co-exist with the occupying army, and how the Dutch behaved towards the Jews of Amsterdam like Anne Frank. Hear about important events, such as the February Strike and Winter of Hunger. Visit the Jewish neighborhood, and hear all about the Portuguese synagogue and Jewish Museum, the head office of the Jewish counsel, the dokwerker and the Auschwitz Monument. Discover locations the Dutch resistance offered as secret hiding places to families like the Franks. The tour ends next to the Anne Frank House, however: admission to Anne Frank’s House is not included. Ideal for fans of European history, the tour also gives an insight into how the Jewish community lived, survived and still thrive in Amsterdam.

Timo was an awesome tour guide - he was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, willing and happy to engage in conversation, delve into topics we as the attendees found fascinating, and really was quite great. The tour was respectful, honest, and something that really brought the city and the story of the Jewish people in Amsterdam to life.

Very nice guide however if you are looking for a real in depth history of the Jews during WW2 then this is not the tour for you. A lot of walking with not too much substance. Maybe it was too cold so it was moved along 🤷‍♀️

Jewish Quarter Anne Frank Walking Tour in Amsterdam

Good Tour. The guide expertly spoke on all the subjects. I would recommend. Only partial negative was the audio. First the guide did speak English , but with a heavy thick accent. As an American , I had to strain in to hear and understand the words. Secondly, please invest in some sort of audio device so you can hear the guide. Some areas were noisy and we could not hear. Some areas we got away from the guide in a crowd and he was till talking as we walked, and could not hear.

Excellent tour led by Raoul. Informative presentations throughout regarding Anne Frank and life for Jews in Amsterdam at this time. Also time to reflect at the Auschwitz memorial. Raoul was knowledgable and gave opportunity for questions and discussion. He did not let the rain affect his work, remaining professional at all times. Good option if you havnt managed to get tickets for anne frank house/museum.
