Climb aboard a mountain bike for a day of adventure on the slopes of the Kohala Mountains during this 2-hour, small-group ride on a 100-acre private ranch. If you’re looking for the ultimate opportunity to enjoy some outdoor activity on the Big Island, this trip is a great option.
Begin your trip in either the morning or afternoon at the historic Anna Ranch. This 100-acre property sits on what was once the homestead of Anna Lindsey Perry-Fiske, a famous cowgirl and Big Island historical figure. Before taking off, get outfitted with a high-end mountain bike and helmet, and listen to a short safety orientation. You’ll also get a brief introduction on the history of the property and ranching in Hawaii.
Then climb aboard your bike and cycle off into the brilliant-green pasture of this private area, ascending past lush tropical fauna and Kohakohau Stream you climb 1,200 feet (365 meters) to reach your first break point. As you cycle higher, you’ll also enjoy gorgeous views of Mauna Kea, the Big Island’s most iconic peak, as well as Hualalai and Mauna Loa.
After enjoying a breather (and food and water) at this scenic viewing spot, you’ll beginning the fun-filled ride back down, whooshing past lava rocks and the wide-open fields of the ranch on your way back to your original starting spot.
