Your first stop, Paronella Park, is situated about 75 miles (120km) to the south of Cairns on the banks of Mena Creek near Innisfail. The beautiful buildings are surrounded by lush heritage gardens and acres of Australian rain forest. Learn the history of the Spanish couple that built their dream estate there in the 1930s, and visit the Spanish Castle ruins. Have free time to explore this ethereal landscape on your own before heading into town.
Have a choice of five dishes for your lunch at the Mena Creek Hotel, which includes a glass of beer, wine or soft drink. Afterward, continue further along the Palmerston Highway to Mamu Tropical Skywalk. There you can enjoy a self-guided audio tour that takes you along more than a half mile (1 km) of elevated boardwalk tracks that wind through the rain forest. The tracks connect to a sturdy elevated walkway that climbs up through the tree canopy to an observation tower.
