Meet your guide and small group of no more than 8 people at the historic Antigua Boatsheds, around 15 minutes before your tour start time. Set out along the scenic Avon riverfront, and through the Christchurch Botanic Gardens, stopping to take a peek at Christ’s College, one of New Zealand’s oldest schools. Cross the river into the Hagley Park and glide along the tree-lined cycle-ways of the city’s biggest urban park.
Continue to the homestead of Riccarton House, a grand heritage home and bushland reserve, where you’ll have the option to take a stroll around the last piece of native bush land in the Canterbury Plains. After admiring the rare Kahikatea trees, continue by bike to the nearby Mona Vale estate, where you can glide around the beautiful rose gardens.
Finally, cycle back into the city center and see the reconstructions and restorations that have taken place since the devastating 2011 earthquake. Cycle past the pretty heritage buildings of New Regent Street, peek inside the Transitional Cardboard Cathedral (Shigeru Ban’s Emergency Architecture), and see the city’s coolest shopping mall – the Re:START Shipping Container Mall, housed in an abandoned shipping container.
After an action-packed tour, end your tour back at the Antigua Boatsheds.
