Departure Time

10:00 AM
Begin your hiking adventure with pickup at your hotel in Nadi and a scenic ride to Lautoka. As you drive, listen to your guides talk about the 'off-the-beaten-path' areas of Fiji, through which you'll begin to understand more about daily life in this island nation. Sights include sugar cane farms, beaches, and the original Fijian settlement of Viseisei. Some exciting off-road driving is in store as well. The drive takes about an hour total, and your guides will stop at a local supermarket in case you want to buy snacks and water.

Hit the trail head and head off through the forest, looking out for plants used in traditional island medicine and other species that are highly poisonous. Your turnaround point is a waterfall, where you're welcome to take a dip and cool off.

Arrive in Abaca village for lunch in the home of a local family. Over traditional Fijian food, learn about their daily life and the challenges they face living so far from community resources like public transportation and grocery stores.

At the conclusion of your activity, you'll be dropped off back at your accommodation in Nadi.

Please note: parts of this hike are strenuous, this activity is suitable for those in decent physical condition.

The hike is good. Ray is great

The hike was a good time. It's a bit of a drive but it's nice to get away and feel like you are in "Fiji" and not just a tourist area. The park was beautiful and the waterfall, while it won't blow you away, was a cool spot and a good point to take a break, dip in the (chilly) water, and head back. Ray is a great guide and we learned a lot about different plants and their uses as well as just some history and some every day facts and ideas about Fijians. The only disappointment was that since we went on a Monday, the village chief told the guide that we wouldn't be able to do a lunch because most of the women were away to the markets and their food supply was short after the weekend. So a bit of a bummer that we didn't get to see more of the village and taste some home cooked food as well as have the kava ceremony. Ray did end up taking us to Tu's Place though which is a fantastic restaurant and listed on all Fiji top restaurant lists. So we did still have an amazing meal and got to talk with Ray a bit more. There were only 4 of us (plus Ray) on the hike so it was a very small group which made it that much better.

Visit to the Highlands of Fiji

Bit of a strenuous hike, but the sights are unbelievable. Our guide Ray was knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and engaging. It really felt like we were in the jungle - a super adventure! The lunch was a down to earth, home cooked Fijian lunch and very good! The chance to buy souvenirs was in the City of Lautoka, but be sure to indicate your interest early; it's easy to lose track of time wandering around the highlands. Be sure to ask about the pigeon that sounds like a barking dog!

This was the best day I booked for my whole vacation! I did a lot of island tours, a couple hikes with villages but this was by far the best. The food was great but the tour guide was the best. Friendly, knowledgable, outgoing and a great tour guide. We hiked to the waterfall in the heat of the summer with some rain along the way. Because it is the rainy season there there was a lot of water to cross from a few inches to above ankle deep waters. This is a great hike and a lot of physical activity but I was able to handle it as a 44 year old heavy gal, so you can too. If you like to see the wildlife, jungle, local village, great views, scenic drive, off road drive, nature this is your tour. It has it all and Raymond is so accommodating. Go out for an adventure you'll truly enjoy and take this tour.

This tour was one of my absolute highlights in Fiji! Great hike, phenomenal views and a wonderful waterfall! You can even dip in if you like! Ray is an amazing tour guide who knows a lot about flora, fauna and the history of Fiji! He made the hike a very personal experience, I felt like I was among friends! The hike itself is challenging but absolutely doable! I can not recommend it enough!

One of the best tours I have ever...

One of the best tours I have ever had! If you want to experience real Fiji, see its natural beauty, and meet its friendly people -- don't look any further. Generally, I am very skeptical about organized tours and prefer to do all planing by myself, but I had very limited time during a stop-over in Fiji and decided to give this one a try. I am so glad I did it! Everything was awesome! Two amazing and knowledgeable guides, Raymond and Allen, met me at my hotel as planned. Since the tour starts late in the morning, I had plenty of time to get from the airport just perfect for transiting passengers. The small-group part of the description was absolutely accurate -- I appeared to be their only client for the day. On our way to the park, I learned so many fascinating facts about the Fijian life, culture, traditions, etc., that I could never possibly find in any other single source. This only to be followed by lots of notes about wildlife and plants that we encountered on the track. How about hearing and then seeing a huge barking pigeon? This alone was worth going on this hike. And I am not even mentioning the scenery thousand words can not describe the beauty of this place. Apart from the picturesque panoramas, the highlight of the tour, to my mind, was the waterfall in the middle of the jungle. You can even take a dip in a small lake downstream or drink the pure Fiji water right from its source! Finally, visiting a local home for a traditional lunch was an eye-opening experience showing how much people have in common even though they may live in opposite parts of the world. Overall, I would never be able to see and learn as much as did on this tour if I was traveling by myself instead. Thank you for the great time. Highly recommended!

It's one of the highlights during our vacation, an absolute change of taste from the beach scene. Although physically it's quite a challenge, we were rewarded with gorgeous views of the mountainous terrain and the overlook of the islands. The visit to one of the local villagers' house and trying out the local dishes is also a memorable experience. Overall, highly recommend to those who have done some hiking before and looking for an alternative experience in Nadi.
