Travel through mystical Celtic Ireland on this full-day bus tour from Dublin! In the company of an expert guide, journey back in time to Boyne Valley, home of the Hill of Tara and the Neolithic tombs of Newgrange (UNESCO site). Afterwards, stop in the town of Howth, a beautiful Dublin Bay fishing village, for a taste of Irish culture that dates back to the Viking Era.
  • Full-day tour from Dublin to Newgrange and Hill of Tara
  • Go back in time to the seat of the High Kings of Ireland at the Hill of Tara.
  • Guided tour of the Neolithic tombs at Newgrange (a UNESCO site)
  • Friendly and experienced local guide
Your journey through ancient Ireland begins bright and early at Lower O’Connell Street in Dublin, where you’ll embark en coach to Boyne Valley. Be sure to grab your own breakfast to enjoy for the trip through the Irish countryside and the County of Meath.
Your first stop is the Hill of Tara, one of Ireland’s most prized relics of spiritual and political heritage. Used as far back as the Stone Age for rituals and festivals, the Hill of Tara is revered as the ceremonial seat of the Celtic High Kings from the 1st-century AD  through to the 1100s. Its continued political significance stretches to the turn of the 19th century, when it became a battle site for the Irish Revolution. Explore some of the ancient monuments before continuing on to Newgrange.
The UNESCO World heritage site of Newgrange dates back to 3200 BC – preceding Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids! Follow your guide into the cairn to tour the passage tomb, where you’ll witness mystical Neolithic stone carvings and ‘basin stones’ that once held sacred human remains.
Before heading back to Dublin, your coach will stop in the picturesque coastal village of Howth. Enjoy sweeping views of Dublin Bay – spotted with colorful fishing boats – and see more impressive Viking-Era monuments. Your day-long tour returns to the starting point on Lower O’Connell Street in late-afternoon.

Stunning sites. Older than the pyramids. Older than Stonehenge. Unknown builders and unknown techniques. Huge stones from afar. Solar significance. Majestic vista. Tara very different and just as mysterious. Trip is a full day. Well worth it.

I was on Princess cruise and disappointed when the cruise itinerary was not scheduled to stop at Skara Brae, a 3k y/o Neolithic village. I guess the visit there is limited. Since the ship was docked in Dublin for 2 days, I booked this tour instead. It was very good, especially if you like archeology. The only draw back is we have to take a taxi from port to Visitor center in city (15 min) and be there before 9 am. Make sure to specify to taxi driver the address as there are 3 locations of visitor center in Dublin. I wish they also offer shore excursions with pick up at port for cruise passengers.

The tour was really cool. Howth was pretty interesting. It was early when we got there, so not everything was open yet, but it was really charming! Newgrange was pretty impressive. The Hill of Tara was just okay, and I could have skipped it. Especially since the chapel exhibit was closed. Regardless, I'm so happy I went!

We were so glad that we decided to embark on this day trip. Newgrange is an incredible site and felt like hallowed ground. It was an amazing experience and the bus driver was exceptionally pleasant and helpful. We spent a week in Ireland and this was a highlight on our trip. It's also a nice distance from Dublin, just far enough so that we felt that we had a full day of adventure, but not so far as to be exhausting. To experience such history moves the soul and provides a depth of understanding at to the age of this beautiful land.

The tomb and solar clock is set in the most breath taking country side, we were amazed by the tomb and marveled the ancient residents understanding of the movement of the sun. Makes you wish you could travel in a time machine.
