What To Expect
Meet your guide and small group of no more than 15 in the late afternoon near Granada’s Albayzin quarter, and set off on your 2-hour tour. Explore Albayzin’s maze-like lanes as your guide explains its history and culture. Coating a hillside overlooking the Alhambra Palace, this charm-laden neighborhood is the city’s old Moorish quarter, and consists of Moorish and Andalusian houses knotted around cobbled streets and plazas. Learn about Albayzin’s 11th-century origins and layout, and absorb the historical atmosphere as you hear about its original inhabitants. View churches, monuments, and remnants of Moorish buildings, and see the area’s ‘cármenes’--whitewashed houses with walled gardens of fruit trees and grape vines. After admiring spectacular views over the Alhambra Palace from here, head to nearby Sacromonte. Radiating over Valparaíso hill, this characterful area has been known as a Roma enclave since the late 1400s, and is famed for its cave houses. Stroll along the cobbled lanes, and see some of the cave dwellings, many now used as flamenco and cultural haunts offering insights into Roma traditions and crafts. Your tour then concludes at the start point, leaving you free to spend the evening in Albayzin as you wish.
Very BAD experience. Guide's heavy accent and poor headset impeded our understanding. She wasted the first hour taking us to an artist's gallery unrelated to the Alhambra! No time left for the old fort. The tour of the palaces failed to give much insight. Thank goodness I had a guidebook.
Highly recommend this tour. The guide was very knowledgeable, very friendly. Saw an amazing garden that belonged to the university and amazing views of the alhambra. The whole walk was enjoyable. Very glad I booked.
