Railay is famous for its rock climbing opportunities, with challenges for all levels of climber. Get started with morning pickup from your Krabi city hotel and transfer to the pier. From there, hop in a longtail boat for the scenic 20-minute jaunt to Railay beach.
Once at Railay, your instructor provides a safety briefing and gets you outfitted with the required equipment at the climbing school. The rock-climbing wall rises up just steps away from the turquoise sea, just a short walk away from the climbing school.
Your beginner’s lesson lasts 3.5 hours, depending on your ability, stamina and fitness. First, watch as your instructor demonstrates climbing and top rope techniques, including how to belay with a partner. The belay includes a rope that loops through a fixed anchor at the top of the climbing route; this rope is attached to the climber and the instructor, allowing the instructor to keep the climber safe for the entire climb.
Once your guide demonstrates the basics, take your turn on the rock. While you are climbing, your instructor keeps you secured with the fail-safe belay device; if you feel tired or slip, you can simply let go with your harness to keep you suspended safely in the air.
Be sure to bring your camera and an adventurous spirit for this exhilarating rock-climbing excursion, which includes water and fruit refreshments to keep you energized. After your 3.5-hour lesson, return to Krabi via longtail boat and vehicle transfer that ends with drop-off at your hotel.
