Go deep into the rainforest surrounding the Arenal volcano with a 2-in-1 combo tour that includes a safari float, canopy walk and the scenic La Fortuna waterfall. Watch for monkeys, sloths, iguanas and caimans while navigating a gentle river, then get a bird’s-eye view of the forest as you walk between tree tops on a series of narrow suspension bridges. Continue to a jungle waterfall, slip into clear water fringed with lush foliage, then enjoy a traditional Costa Rican lunch and locally grown coffee before returning to your hotel.
We booked this tour as part of our anniversary trip to Costa Rica. We were fortunate to get Carlos as our guide. He knew so much about Costa Rica, and not just the wildlife either. We spoke about everything from the flora and fauna, to the culture, economy, and much more. We were treated to a full history lesson as well as the beauty of the river. The tour ended with a marvelous local lunch and even a sloth sighting.
The tour was relaxing, fun, enjoyable and educational. Out tour guides were Carlos and Edgar, both were professional, friendly and knew a lot about the Costa Rican culture, environment and history. The day we went was rainy but didn't effect the tour, we saw a lot of wildlife- a caiman, crocodile, many different birds, bats, slothes and howler monkeys on the river safari. We stopped at a family restaurant and had some homemade snacks which were very good. The La Fortuna Waterfall stood up to its beauty we actually had an extra waterfall by La Fortuna, which was as amazing as La Fortuna because of the rain and yes there are quite a few steps to go down and up. We were not able to swim because of the force of the water coming down from the waterfalls due to the rain, which was ok. After we finished the waterfall tour we went to another family restaurant and had an amazing lunch, food and people were great!
We couldn't have asked for better tour guides.
Things to bring along are sandals for the river safari and probably walking shoes for the waterfall. If it is rainy or threatening rain bring a rain poncho or jacket. We found out that our shoes and jackets smelled afterwards river water so make sure you have extra ones with you if they get wet from the river.
