Overview

Embark on a unique wine country experience with a trip aboard the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley. Modeled after the famed cable cars of San Francisco, the trolley shuttles you through Sonoma’s picturesque winemaking region with stops at four different wineries. Taste regional varietals at each estate, and savor a gourmet picnic lunch catered by top-rated local bistro The Girl & the Fig. Learn about the history of Sonoma from your spirited guide as you roll past a handful of historic landmarks throughout the day.
  • Full-day wine country tour from downtown Sonoma
  • Ride in a replica of a historic San Francisco cable car
  • Enjoy the trolley's narration by a local historian and actor
  • Visit four family-owned wineries
  • Admire the scenery of vineyards and hills from the trolley
  • Pickup and drop-off from downtown Sonoma
Skip the stress of driving and navigating among dozens of different wineries, and let the Sonoma Valley Wine Trolley whisk you through the vineyards. Make your way to the historic Sonoma Plaza midmorning, where you’ll meet your guide and climb aboard the beautiful trolley — a lovingly created replica of a vintage San Francisco cable car. Take a seat and enjoy the fresh valley air streaming through the windows as you cruise through Sonoma’s rolling hills and renowned vineyards.

Stop at four different wineries hand-picked for their welcoming atmosphere and excellent wines, and sample classic California varietals like chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and merlot (tasting fees not included). Winery hosts will be on hand to provide tasting notes and background on the wines you enjoy.

Midday, stop for a picnic lunch catered by French-country bistro The Girl & the Fig, a local favorite. Savor a gourmet spread of sandwiches, side salads and desserts, served family style so you can pick and choose among the tasty offerings.

Throughout the day, your lively host provides commentary on passing attractions and brings to life fascinating chapters of California history. Learn about Sonoma’s past as a Spanish mission and hear local folklore as you roll past historic landmarks including the Mission San Francisco Solano, the Bear Flag Monument, General Vallejo's Soldier Barracks, the Sonoma and Swiss hotels and the charming town of Glen Ellen.

Your fun and historic 6-hour tour concludes back at Sonoma Plaza.

Napa Valley Wine Trolley Tour with Lunch | Mar 2020
Nice tour. I really appreciated the tour guides commentary and knowledge. I felt the wineries we visited appreciated the trolley's business and gave us excellent treatment. It also helped that we had a perfect spring day.

Napa Valley Wine Trolley Tour with Lunch | Feb 2020
Tour was just so so, the wineries were small and one they chose to take us to was just a tasting building no vineyards around. I think if you are wanting the real experience Sonoma may be better as we were disappointed overall with Napa Valley. Tour guide was very friendly and did the best with what he had to work with,

Family celebration.

Napa Valley Wine Trolley and Castle Tour with Tasting | Feb 2020
Our family of six (all adults) had a wonderful day. The three wineries on the tour gave us a nice overview of the numerous small wineries in the valley. Their guides were informative and the wine tastings enjoyable. Since the weather was cool, the open air section of the trolley was a bit uncomfortable, especially at higher speeds but with proper outerwear it would not be an issue. Some of our party was unprepared but once we were able to move to the enclosed area, it was perfect. Lunch was delicious. Dillon, our driver made the day stress free and enjoyable. Would recommend this tour to others.

Napa Valley Wine Trolley Tour with Lunch | Dec 2019
We had a van instead of the trolley. But it was fine with a friendly, informative driver. Just 4 women -- I did not know the other 3 when we started, but by the end we were all having a great time. Good wineries, tastings, and lunch.

Wonderful way to spend the day in Napa

star-5Matt R
Napa Valley Wine Trolley Tour with Lunch | Nov 2019
Overall fantastic way to spend a day and learn about Napa area, wine-making, and get around. Especially if you are a first time Napa visitor (I was) this is a great way to orient yourself to wine country. I always look at negative reviews before booking a tour, and I'll say each one I read turned out to be completely false, or the reviewer didn't do his/her homework. Yes, you need to purchase your tastings at each tour yourself, but this is clearly indicated in the sign up and if you've done any research ahead of time you'll find it is standard for any Napa tour. Yes, your tour may be subject to change. Good luck finding one that is not as the touring company can't control conflicts with other private events, closings, acts of god. You are paying for: a) transportation (look at the cost of Ubering and compare, as well as organizing any private tastings) b) catered lunch c) outstanding tour guide who will teach you about Napa regions, winemaking. Leif was funny, knowledgeable, and patient. d) A fun experience with a group e) Likely at least one winery tour behind the scenes. We toured the indoor facility and got to pluck grapes from the vine to sample at WhiteHall As an added bonus, if you are subject to motion sickness (especially after drinking) the open-air trolley is a great way around it. It was everything I wanted when I signed up.

60th B-Day Weekend

Napa Valley Wine Trolley Tour with Lunch | Oct 2019
My wife and I had a great time on this tour. We had 25 people on the tour and all were very friendly. The lunch was great, and our driver did his best to keep us happy along the way. I would have rated the tour as 5 stars, but one of the stops was a waste of time. I believe it was called White Hall Lane Winery. It was not a winery, just a store and tasting room, and on top of that, they had us tasting some wine from Oregon. I thought we would only be visiting real Napa wineries, where the wine was actually produced on-site, using grapes from the valley, so this was disappointing. Another minor issue was that the speakers in the back of the trolley were not operating, just the ones at the front of the car, so it was hard to understand some of the drivers narration. We really enjoyed the Andretti Winery, which was the last stop, I would advise future patrons to check in advance which wineries the trolley is scheduled to stop at prior to boarding, and so you don't repeat ones you have already tasted the day before. Overall, we had a great time and would recommend it to anyone.

Napa Valley Wine Trolley and Castle Tour with Tasting | Oct 2019
We got on the trolley in Yountville. Our tour guide for the trolley was not good. He didn’t have much interesting to say; also wasn’t easy to hear. Lunch was not great either. A good salad, and 1/2 sandwich. Still waiting for the other 1/2. Wine tasting and castle tour with Kerry were outstanding.

Napa Valley Wine Trolley and Castle Tour with Tasting | Oct 2019
This was my first trip to Napa Valley. Everything from start to finish about booking and visiting the castle and doing the wine tasting went extremely well. No problems whatsoever. I would do this particular wine trolley and castle tour in a heartbeat. The tour is very thorough and interesting. The tour guide takes you through eight floors and the wine tasting is the best experience I've ever had doing a wine tasting. The ladies really make it fun and last a long time. You get five choices. You can buy a bottle right then and there or have it shipped to your home address. If your in Napa Valley and looking for a unique one of a kind experience this is it!! don't miss it!!
