Begin your tour with hotel pickup from your lodging in central Delhi at 2 p.m. With your private group of eight people or fewer, head to your first stop: a well-known joint serving up piping hot jalebis, rings of deep-fried flour batter soaked in sugar syrup.
Then, continue to one of the city’s oldest and most famous eateries known for its soft dahi bhalle, a type of flour pastry filled with potatoes and chickpeas and served with a mint sauce. A restaurant specializing in vegetarian parantha, or stuffed bread, comes next; try this dish with tamarind chutney, mint chutney, pickles, curries, and more.
Take a break from eating to visit a wholesale market selling traditional dresses and a site important to Sikh religious history.
After, visit the largest spice market in Asia at Khari Baoli. Smell your way through the stalls of local herbs and spices before hitching a ride on a rickshaw to the Red Fort. Keep your camera out and busy throughout the tour; your guide will point out ideal places to take photos.
