Make your way to a Pagosa Springs trailhead, where you’ll meet a dogsledding guide and a dogsled steam (directions will be confirmed after booking). Find out how the sled dogs are trained and cared for, and get an introduction to the sport of dogsledding. Alaskan malamutes are bred for endurance and strength, and are capable of pulling heavy sleds over long distances; most of the dogs you’ll meet are born and raised onsite alongside a few rescued animals.
Hook up the dogs to a wheeled sled with padded seats, then hit the trail for a dogsled adventure. At the beginning of the tour and at a secondary location, a photographer will capture the experience in a series of 25–50 shots that you’ll receive by email within a week of completing the tour. After returning to the trailhead, help unhook the dogs from the wheeled sled, reward the animals for their work with pets and affection, then refuel with cookies and hot chocolate.
